I love playing my short scales - both a Series I and a Signature Deluxe. I've also got a medium scale with a Standard point body.  The latter is a large instrument. So large that someone came up to me recently while playing out with both the SC and Standard point with an amusing set of comments. She told me that when she saw me playing the standard point she thought I was "tiny" compared to my bandmates. However, after seeing the short scale in action she indicated that she understood that I was only "small." In my defense, I'm 5'8" tall. However, our guitarist for this band is 6'5," the banjo player is 6'3," and the woman who plays the fiddle is 5'10.

It's a 3/4 size Standard Point, perhaps comparable in size to your EvH.

I have seen this MK Signature bass on Reverb. It looks different than the other MK basses that I have seen. Looks like a sort of a hybrid between a Point model and a Balance K body. What's the story behing this model?

For that "hollow" tone you're talking about, I encourage you to experiment with the filter controls and find something that YOU like.  A large boost at a relatively low frequency will likely produce a hollow sound - like having a wah-wah pedal part way open.  But again, just experiment and see if your instrument can inspire you.  That's what it's all about!

I agree for 100% with you. It is not my intention to copy Stanley Clarke, cause there is only one Stanley. I hope I have my own thing going. At least I am trying. Just was curious about that specific hollow solo sound, because you don't hear that a lot from other Alembic players. I agree that maybe 90% of his sound is in his fingers Only that special hollow sound has not much to do with his fingers I think, it's just a specific setting. I really like that sound and I can't quite get it out of my Alembics. I experiment a lot with different filter/Q-switch pickup balance settings because I record a lot of my solo work. I just fiddle with the knobs until I find the sound that I have in my head for the bass part that I want to record.

Bought this Alembic EvH Signature bass about a month ago. New bass always means new composition for me. "Extreme Volcanic Heat". This is a piece in five parts showcasing some of the sounds that can be achieved with this bass, using several playing techniques. Slap with both pickup mixed, clean bass solo with bridge pickup and filter/Q-switch, chords favoring bridge pickup and distortion bass solo favoring neck pickup.

It also has a small tapping part on my Fender USA The Urge 1 Stuart Hamm bass.
Meanwhile the EvH is now in tenor tuning because I am going to sell The Urge bass.
I also have a Spoiler bass. Below also a picture of both basses and one of the back of the EvH.
