Yeah this is the bass with the ACG filters in. It actually has low and high pass filters for each pickup with CVQ on the low pass and gain on the high pass. My tonal reference for bass is very much trying to get the kind of sound Aston Barrett gets for his bass lines so I avoid setting the cut off so low that the articulation is lost. Normally the neck low pass filter is set to roughly give me the kind of sound i would get in the closed position on an alembic signature filter. I then have the bridge filter about 60% open with the Q about 50% and volume about 5% so that it just gives me an edge to the notes.
I always get this wrong but I think the lowest frequency cut off on the filter is about 80HZ which I tried setting on the first bass gig I did with the band. Although the sound guy loved the fact I could get that low on the subs cleanly and boost the very low end, the problem for me was that it is pretty hard to hear the articulation on stage through the cab or monitors when all you have is the really low end, so I haven't used that end of the filter much since that time
I think If I had a high wattage 18 speaker cab or a sub as part of my bass rig, that end of the spectrum would be more useable at volume.
As good as those ACG filters are, they are not as quiet as alembic filters, and as much as the alembic cut off is far higher 350Hz , there is still a lot of subs in the bottom end to give some righteous dub bass.
The high pass filters are not as useable as you may think as they do bring in a lot of finger noise and can be tiresome on the ears if you get into the clack clack frequencies and use anything more than minimal gain.
My original reason for getting them was to see if I could get a cheaper Series II sound. But now I have one I can hear they have nothing in common. :-)
