I'm very squeamish about posting this up here with you guys, so go easy on me... just having a little fun playing along with the Grateful Dead on my Custom fretless 5-string. The tune is one of my favorites from the 5/5/1977 New Haven show.

Roll tape in the practice room... Peggy-O, take-two...

That was great, and reflects the time you've spent studying Phil's playing.

I love it, Pete!  :D  Was just talking to my buddy Ted yesterday about the logistics of doing a neighborhood jam if/when it ever gets warm enough up here... between us we've got enough PA equipment to broadcast the few blocks we'd need to reach. We're thinking Memorial Day weekend.

Gregory, this little jam really uplifted a lot of people from some dole drums. Including us!
If you can pull it off it’s worth it’s weight just in smiles.
You sounded great in your previous post.
Onwards in hopes of improved lives.
Peace

I took a swing at "Tennessee Jed" recently, with my Persuader 5-string... (hence, the coupla' extra-low notes - I couldn't resist)  ;D

Such a cool bass... love those old silver-face Mesa WalkAbouts too. Very hard to beat!

...For some reason my phone picture refuses to show upright...

Of an upright bass! The un-kind irony!  ;D

Spent some quality time this morning with #77-621 plugged into a little bit different setup. Couple weeks ago, I snagged a really good buy on an older Mesa Diesel 15 cab in the local Craigslist, and bought it just to keep in the Harwell-Grice band van. (so I don't have to carry a cabinet around anymore...) I even made a makeshift case for it out of an old shipping carton. Those things are built like a tank, and are about 80 lbs. It'll be fine living in the chaos of the Urban Assault Vehicle. It came with casters already mounted! Now (if ever the gigs return) I can show up with my two chosen Alembic basses and this Gator 3u zipper with an old red-knob model F-1X and a Crown XLS 1000 poweramp, and a small pedalboard that sits on top. It has only my Mesa DI, a Polytune strobe in a dedicated Tuner out, a Chorus and a Compressor, both in an effects loop. I keep this antique DS-1 unit #27 with Dave's old Series I. It is a stereo-only unit, so I had a Y-adapter made so it was more gig-able. (and Jeannie, of course...)

I ran a few tests with it this morning... there is a touch of chorus here, and the Mesa DI 'boost' is engaged. EQ is basically flat... though I am boosting the bass and treble a bit at the F-1X. Deep & Bright switches are disengaged. 621's controls are set: both pickups on, bridge filter at about 40% open, Q-switch off, neck filter 85% open, Q-switch center.

The backing track is from Wikiloops. I particularly enjoy this drummer and guitarists' playing.

That Zebrawood, Michael.  8) I should have given you the hat-tip there... that's your old red-knob F-1X, at work again!  ;D

Thanks Rob.  :)

When 621 came to me from Mr. Dave Houck, it was strung with T-I Jazz Rounds, and they were just magical on that bass. I had the T-I Jazz Flats I usually prefer on there for a short time, but as soon as it was refretted, those wonderful green-silked Rounds went right back on, and the sizzle returned. It's hard to mess up a good Series I, but there are some combinations that just work better... this is one of them.
