How many Levite Warriors are here?
« Reply #60 on: April 21, 2007, 06:46:27 PM »
I'm going into the studio this week to start a project for my cousin. She is a real good singer and pianist and her husband wrote some of the tunes we're doing.
I'll post some updates as we progress.

It's been about 5 years since I've been in the studio, (I've been pretty much retired from the music scene) but I have been anxious to get back into it.

Peace,
Olie (rhymes with HOLY.)

Olie-

I don't have much.  I have one song that my father wrote while he was going through chemotherapy.  He ended up losing the battle with cancer, but we both know who won the war. =)

My wife sung the song at my father's memorial service.  I don't have a recording from the service, but I do have a recording of the one very short practice session we had beforehand.

It's a one off take- my wife begged me not to post it- she's not happy with the vocals.  We did add the backing vocal harmony at the beginning, but everything else was just straight into a CD recorder from my buddies practice mixing board.

It's a 2.1 MB download, but have a listen if you'd like to.

I love You Lord

We do DVD recordings every Sunday. I usually get them to use as game tapes.  You can watch our services live on Sunday mornings.  http://streamview.thehomechurch.org/  There is a service at 9:00 AM PST (thats west coast time for you folks in Rio Linda) and I play in the 11:00 AM PST Service.

Toby, I really enjoyed the song. You really need to get in the studio (or home studio) and finish' it. The song is great. Your wife has a great voice and I loved the bass and guitar work on the song too. I could just imagine hearing Hillsong doing this song
Did your dad write the music and melody too?

Cancer got both my parents, my mom at the age of 54 and my dad at 76. I'll see them again though.

Olie,

We'll get around to it... The guitar guy is a stud, I was just trying to stay outta the way on the bass.

There wasn't any music to it- my dad just sort of sang it a few times into a tape recorder he had- we had about 3 hours the day before the service to get something together.  My wife took the words and adapted the melody somewhat- the music was just made up to the fit the melody.

Sorry to hear about your parents- cancer stinks.

The cinematography is not always the best.  Same with the sound.  It depends on who is running cameras that day.  Other than that, it is pretty cool to be able to do that.  We're working on getting a server that will allow up to 100 people to log in at the same time.  Not Cheap.

I think that we will be on the web all day on Saturday April 28th as well.  My company does a yearly conference at the Church for people involved in the tech ministries at their churches and the Worship teams and pastors.  The company that makes the big, fat HD video server will be there and they are bringing one and are supposed to hook it up and run it all day.  Should be cool.  You'll only see the classes in the sanctuary.  But you can get a good idea for some of the other stuff my company does.  www.zamarmedia.com

Rats, unless it's in the public domain, we don't record the music portion of our service - message only.

as an aside:
Picked up Salvador?s ?Dismiss the Mystery? disc. Great tunes with a Latin influence. We?ve played Shine during service. Some other great tracks are ?Neighbor? and ?Child of the King?.

One of those God-moments. Yesterday, our worship band took part in a celebration service for a teen shelter. The event was hosted by and located in a prominent church in the Plano area. No amps, no stage monitors and nothing from the house for us or the vocalists. Good thing the drummer had an acoustic kit. And good thing the keyboard player opted to play the church?s piano and not his electric keyboard, otherwise we would have had nothing to keep time with. It was bizarre. Pray and play. The audience was on their feet and clapping. Either it was that good or they were that nice.

Doc,

Are you setting up a unicast or multicast server? We broadcast live events all the time using multicast servers that are hit by hundreds of users at the same time. Sometimes up to 2000 users. Simple Microsoft stuff. The encoder software is free, too.
I'm in the front-end production side of the show, but from what I understand, an audience of 100 hitting a live stream shouldn't be a huge undertaking.
What software are you using and whats your hardware configuration?

Currently we are using this piece here:  http://www.vaddio.com/security/ip_network_camera_servers.asp  It was quick and simple and allows those who may be sick to still go their church.  We originally got it so our Pastor could log in while he was in the hospital.  This weekend we are putting in one of these: http://www.viewcast.com/pages.asp?page=niagara-6225

They are one of the sponsors of our Worship & Tech Conference that e do every year.  They will be teaching a class on webcasting for Churches.  I saw this product in use at NAB.  I was fairly inpressed.

Of course its short notice.  But, if your interested in attending the event,  Alembic Club members are welcome to be my guest at the event.  Here is a link to it:http://www.zamarsound.com/batmc/batmc.htm

In addition to Sunday service, a couple times each year we have 3 other praise teams in town get together and have a couple of hours of just praise. Kind of Battle of the Praise Bands, but without the ego nonsense. Works best on a Saturday evening for us. Its good to hear other styles and players that we couldn't otherwise (we're all working the same shift!). Each group posts an ad in their bulletin. We usually get a few hundred people joining in. The only bummer is I have to be stage manager and sound man for 4 groups, but they let me play in the end!
