No apologies needed Olie.

Groovelines:  The Israel stuff is great.  I used to go to Church at Lakewood in Houston.  I was actually in youth group with Joel Osteen.  Where did I go wrong.  Oh Yeah.  My dad wasn't the pastor.   LOL.  I like to play along with Israel's New Season album.  Keeping up with his bass player can be a workout at times.

Personally speaking, I just think it is awesome that we get to Worship God with our instruments while leading others into Worship.  It really is great.  My dad also plays in his Church in Houston.  Now he's playing guitar.  He just purchased the Amber Skylark from the ALembic Store.

So what is some of the other music you guys are playing in your Church?  Any Hillsong United folks, like me?

byoung:  I really hope that you are not just playing.  If you're doing it for God, then it is so much more thatn just playing.  Especially in a Pentecostal Church.  My dad's Church is Pentecostal and both of my brothers are Pentecostal Pastors.  I never met a Pentecostal that just did anything.

Anyway, I'm not beating you up.  But I would like to lift you up.  Be Bold when you go before The Lord with your chosen Instrment or Weapon as it were.

Doc you should check Kurt Carr, smoking Bass Lines on his stuff.

We do a lot of Hill Song too.

We even did a Stevie Wonder tune last week, Higher Ground, went over great too.

I'll check him out.  The bass player on the Hillsong United we Stand and Look to You  is a monster.  He regularly plays melody lines and solos.  I've had to learn all of these.  The melody lines aren't so hard.  But his solo's.......  Man where does he come up with some of this stuff?

When I lived in SoCal about 30 years ago, a friend brought me to see a christian rocker and recording artist named Larry Norman.  IIRC he was a bit controversial.  I wasn't into the religious aspect of it, but appreciated the music.  Anyone ever hear of him?  Is he still around?

Oh Yeah.  Larry is big in the world of CCM.  One of the biggest influences I think.  There are so many.  Including the one that I got my Series II from.  Kevin Thomson of Sweet Comfort Band.  what a band.

Doc,

The just the bass player remark was a little tongue-in-cheek.

We're Oneness Pentecostal in every sense of the word.

If you know what that means, you know also what I'm implying--

Hammond + Leslie, piano, drums, bass, guitar, tambourines, praise singers, and leaving church knowing that you had church.

Bradley

Doc, We tend to go through music so fast that every week typically has three new numbers. It's only been in the past year that composers like Houghton, Matt Redman, Derrick Horne and Chris Tomlin have been introduced as part of worship.
When it's appropriate, we've also played Al Green, Parlament, James Brown, U2, Lynard Skynard (the senior pastor is from Alabama) and others. All truth is God's truth.

One thing I've noticed is that I've become dependent on charts and don't commit any of it to memory.

I need to check out the Hillsong references.

Now that;s what I am talking about.  Not going to church. Having Church.  I know what you're saying.  Man you could be on stage all day some Sunday's.  I really dig it when the Worship is so heavy that the Pastor doesn't even get to preach.  I know you know what that means

Bradley, DUDE I love a B-3 with that Leslie churnin' out some sounds. That'll make you dance.

Makes me think of a video of Billy Preston I saw on Youtube with George Harrison. WOW

I play and sing regularly in our Baptist Church.

Usually I am the guitar player and lead or backing vocalist.  Sometimes I am the electric bass player.

When we have visiting musicians with a Bluegrass tilt, I sometimes play the resonator guitar or upright bass.

My dad use to play bass (Series I) for this lady.  She used to play a B3 and she was a smokin' player.  Serious Pipes Too.
