...coming back to the roots....
« on: July 09, 2003, 07:49:26 AM »
Hi Guys,
after a longer period of not making any music I just came back to the roots and will restart again. The main reason for this: the new Alembic Spyder bass.
I am a l?ng time John Entwistle fan and I have ever dreamed of one of his Exploiter basses as close to the originals as possible.
I remember of the past where I tried to purchase one of John directly through his then management and tried to buy one from the Hard Rock Cafe (they have one of the originals here in Berlin), asked the great people of Alembic in rebuilding me one, but the price was out of reach for me). Sorry guys, but I am one of the people who can only play on a bass I like and I couldn?t get good results on a compromise I had to make.
So it was only a sign from above that told me some weeks ago to take a visit on the Alembic homepage and then there it was: the Spyder!
So, shortly spoken I already ordered a Spyder bass and I am waiting to get it. It is already in Germany but not customs cleared yet. Plse UPS, work fast!!
I will post a scan when my baby has arrived!

Many greetings and many thanks for reading.
Oliver Baumann

Oliver,

Welkommen und wie gehts?! Other than Zwei Bier, bitte schon! that's the end of my German. Please excuse the spelling, Munich/Bad Tolz/Kaisersluatern was a long, long time ago. Where is Dueren and are they ready for The Spyder?

auf wiedersehen,
Mike

Hi Mike,
thanks for your kind mail.
Dueren is located between Cologne and Aachen, close to the dutch and belgium border.
I think this is the first Spyder in Germany!
I have to do much work as I haven?t played for some years but as John Entwistle unfortunately passed away (RIP) there must be someone continuing his great playing styles.  :-)
I will try to......

Brother Oliver

I'm sorry, I was only joking.
Although we ARE neighbours!
I live in Belgium and you in Germany. I dunno where Dueren is. Sint-Joris-Weert is 8 km from Leuven and this is roughly situated 1/3 between Brussels and the German border.

I'm very happy you started playing again. Me too re-started at 39. I took formal music studies (upright) and went back to electric merely because I couldn't afford an upright AND an Alembic.

But please crank up ...you never know and who knows ..maybe we'll meet!

Hi Paul,
I also never couldn?t afford an Alembic but I was dreaming of it since twenty years, especially as said this special design. Now, I am 39 and this baby will light up my life.
Dueren is very close to Aachen, around 40kms from the dutch and belgium border.
So we can meet shortly if you want.....

I have this great Idea Oliver.

As soon as Brother Roger his Dragonwing bass is ready he promised me to come along (his bass will be deliverd in Holland). As you can follow in the Factor-to customer thread it will be a bass based on John Entwistle's design of the buzzard bass.
Now wouldn't it be great to meet the three of us??
A plain (VERY plain) Series 2, a Spider and the Dragonclaw ... together ...let's shake the earth!!!

This will be great! Yes, good idea to meet then.
My Spyder was delivered some minutes ago.

So, any bets on how long before Oliver can tear himself away from his new baby? Will he miss work? Will he forget to eat? Could he possible forget to even breathe? How long should we wait before sending the police around to see how he's doing?

Hi Mike,
you might be right.  :-)
Today as the bass arrived with UPS in my office everyone wanted to know what in this unbelievable big case is. I think today I have shown more the bass to the people than working..... :-)

Many greetings
Oliver

Oh Brother Paul,

You are so modest!!!  There is nothing plain about a Series 2.  Bonnie is beautiful!!!
Oliver, welcome to the club!  Please post some pics of you and your new addition when you can.
Congratulations!!!!

Peace,

Euh ...and I've read somewhere that there is a 8 string Spider on her way to you too Oliver?!?!?!?!?!?!
Mmmmmm ...Dueren near Aachen you said ...yes ...there were some serious bank-robberies signalled last week.
So Oliver isn't there something you want to share with us, huh???
