I bought my first ever Alembic yesterday. I have been looking for a bass to make the step up from my current OLP musicman copy and stumbled across an Essence 4-string in a dutch auction site.

I just had to bid on it. A (extremely surprising to me) I won the bidding

So now I (a poor student) am feeling like a king, having just stepped WAY up. The bass is quite stock, built in '91, with mahogany body and walnut top and it sings...

I think I'm in love... (which is hard because it is at the guitar shop to get set up right now  )

Hoi Matthijs, welkom bij de Club! I've seen a picture of your bass on 'Marktplaats', very nice indeed! There's nothing like walnut, surely my favourite wood. If you post the serial# in a thread called 'info request' or something in one of the first two forum sections, Mica or Val can provide you with the building details of your bass. Please post some pictures when she's in your hands. Enjoy!

Thanks for the warm welcome, I'll be sure to make a thread once I get the bass (and the serial# :D)back.

Alright, here's some pictures I shot last night under less than perfect lighting conditions with a less than perfect camera. (this has been a Disclaimer(tm)  )

Beautiful instrument, Matthijs! Welcome to a world of musical happiness. Many of us here adore walnut (and I'm among that group). Your Essence almost looks like it might be quilted walnut (anybody.... does that even exist?) Anyway, welcome and enjoy.

I think it's a Nephew of Bonnie: I bet it's Clarowood: the Calfornian local family od the Dark Walnut.

I registered my instrument through the webform, but am I supposed to get a mail back from that?

You'll probably get a personal mail from Valentino or Mica acknowledging the registration, but it may take a few days.

Intussen van harte welkom - je bent waarschijnlijk de eerste oosterling. Echte Tukker of import? (=let's not start that big fish thing all over again)

Vissen zuigen niet, of je moet het over de dwarsgestruikte lipvis hebben. (=We covered hard and soft G in previous 'discussions' here in the Club, so would you agree that fish have a liquid sort of G?)

Wow, what a wonderful top! There's definitely some quilting showing there. That's why I love walnut tops so much, there's so many exciting things going on under the finish and they're all unique. Two other Dutch walnut Alembics want to say hi...
