Hey Paul.  Nice coco bolo and good looking bass.  Your earlier post didn't show the contrast as well as the natural light does.  I kind of like gig pix best, because otherwise if the bass is not extremely well lit, it's kind of like a still life that didn't work out.  Not that bass-only pictures can't work well, but I have a hard time getting my instrument across well in them.  It's also interesting to place the person with the bass and the gig setting.

Where was the picture taken?  What kind of rig are you playing through?

My God, man! How could you sling that bass over THAT SHIRT! Unless...hmmm...it's all a clever ploy to make the bass look even better by comparison.
Clever!

Paul, beautiful bass!  The Coco Bolo really comes out strong on it.
I'm hoping for my next one to be a MK.

Bill, it looks like Hartke to me.  It's kinda hard to see in the photo.

Welcome to the Alembic Club!

You got in just before we instituted a cap on the number of Paul's that can be active members at the same time (you'll understand later).  We'd let ya in anyway 'cause that's a sweet Mark King ya got there, and some of us are sorta partial to coco bolo.

Have fun!

Peace,

James

Halihola!

ANOTHER PAUL!!!!

Now ...let's see:
* Paul the Bad one (that's me)
* Paul the Good one (with the injured head and always into beer)
* Paul the Fake one (the artist formerly known as DIno)
* Paul the John one
* John the Paul one (to make it more complicate)
* Paul the Silent one (he's into guitars)
* Paul the Goose one
* Paul the Aaaaaaaaaargh one (thanks Sam!)
...anyone...
...anymore...

This MUST be Paul the Ugly one!
At least!!
Seen the gorgeous shirt (what's that guitar doing in front of it ...completely ruining the image ...ah-la-la ...those bassplayers) and the fancy sunglasses  ...
Brothers and Sisters ...wer have an Ugly one!!!
Now let's ask some important questions:
* how is your banging with empty beer bottles on a table ...huh?
* Can you yell Pictures-pictures-pictures while keeping the beat with the banging?? (with the bottles of course).
* You speak Elf??
* Can I lend nylon stocking??
Yes??
Cool!!!
Welcome -welcome!!!

Paul the bad one

Oh BTW: that Mark King is absolutely nice!!

I don't know, I had somewhat higher standards for The Ugly One, I'm not sure I can accept this.

I realize it's been an awkward and long-standing gap in the list, but I'm starting to feel like we should just leave it that way, like an empty chair at the table or something.

Besides, I think the protocol strongly suggests that the Paul should propose his own title, doesn't it? (or at least that there's a grace period in which to do so...)

My god...much of a hermit as I am, I've got to step up to the plate after all the ruckus I've created...protocol dictating...

Regarding my shamelessly gaudy sartorial spleandor...the quick wit award to the 1st person to identify the musician on it.  I know...it's a virtual rorschach test...clue...you can see the eye just above the bass, in the curve.

The rig I played through at this show wasn't actually mine.  This was a 3 day, on the water festival...all the backline stuff, sound & lighting was provided.

You're gonna love this...a Wayne's World moment...this picture was taken at...I kid you not...Waterstock...3 days of Boats, Bands & Beers...oh yeah, crabs too...happens Labor Day weekend.  The bands play on a double decker barge anchored out in the middle of the harbor off the Potomac River, a few miles south of DC.

But wait, there's more...check out our super cheesy website at www.thecrapbluesband.com.  Now how much would you pay...?  If you order in the the next 15 minutes...

Perhaps, Paul the Warped one...

Coco Bolo...accept no substitute...

Paul -

Don't be frightened, you can still (mostly) get away with being a hermit here. Perhaps you could be the crappy one (see website), or even the crabby one?
I'm not going to ask for further clarification on the crabs, let's keep it in the context of hermits.

I give up on the shirt test. Though there is this thing about suitable backdrops for these gorgeous Alembic insruments, and we've had some previous issues on this matter, e.g. scroll up a bit from here, and earlier today the schwartz posted one on a Persian rug. I mean, really, guys...

Anyway, a serious question now. Your first post on this thread says My current bass for electic band gigs. Assuming you dropped an R there, it implies you sometimes play an acoustic - yet after reviewing your other posts (thankfully not as many as some of our other Pauls), it seems you gave up on fretless and also don't really like long (what I consider normal, or perhaps marginal) scale.

Given that, it's hard to imagine you'd play an upright, and I can't imagine playing an acoustic bass guitar with a scale less than 34.

So maybe you meant to say eclectic?

-Bob (the Puzzled one, but definitely not one of the Paul ones)

PS: palembic, warped in this part of the world means something like twisted (a piece of wood that got wet and bent funny?), or when applied to a human more like strange, deviant, or perhaps even perverted in some sense. I'm not quite sure how to apply that to this Paul, aside from the fact that he's playing an electric instrument on a boat anchored out in some body of water, maybe with  really long extension cords... true, his shoes look a bit unusual, but I'm not sure they're sufficiently protective.

Sadly, warped has nothing obvious to do with eating (or cooking) or drinking, and certainly nothing to do with Alembics. I'm really not sure what he has in mind here, unless it goes back to the shirt thing.

PPS: this is so weird. Clearly, out here in California I should be going to sleep instead of writing this nonsense, while Paul TBO is getting an early start on his day in Belgium - yet I'm following up on a post he made tomorrow. I suppose that would imply a time warp, but I don't think that's what he meant either... enough. Good night (well, I'll go play a little first).
