Yeah, thank you, looks a lot like a collection. But, being family father on the one hand and not having a director's seat with big $$$ salary on the other, I have to take care where to put my money.

I started with the Essence about 15 months ago. It is a fretless fiver with a very nice tulipwood top and maple body, no back laminate. Now that Peggy is here, too, I am a little under pressure to sell the Essence, but it has such a great tone, I will defend it the best I can. Second was the Spoiler that I use as my working axe, also quite a nice top, especially the grain got me hooked.

Now, spending so much money for the third Alembic really made my wife mad. But, you folks know, every man has to do what a man has to do, so... I don't go to pubs, I don't have a faible for cars, I am simply a music madman, ever was since I was thirteen. My collection will not grow for quite a long time, though :-)

As has been noted many times in these parts, you have to keep Senior Management happy. Whenever mine gives me that look upon the arrival of yet another guitar, I remind her that all of my instruments put together are still significantly less than half a Porsche! Then I explain that these are good investments - they certainly won't lose any money, and some will undoubtedly increase in value. Then I suggest she pick out something from the Sundance catalog for herself. So far, so good. We have a member on this board who recently reported that he purchased an Alembic without notifying Senior Management until he brought it home from the office where he had had it delivered. The unfortunate result is that he was required to sell it! So enjoy Peggy and good luck on retaining the Essence. Jewelry helps! LOL

you're absolutely right, thank you for your remarks. It is, of course, a give and take between partners, and my wife got her dream fulfilled last April (a Volkswagen Cabrio). And, without health, you can trash everything else into the garbage.

I did this hide 'n' seek, too, with the Spoiler that was delivered to my office. But it just isn't fair to the Senior Management. If I had tried that on the aquisition of Peggy, I think I would have had to decide which girl to keep and which to let go... don't wanna think about that.

Yeah, jewelry helps, sure, LOL. That's what my guitarist always tells me. Hey, I've seen this Alembic jewelry on eBay some days ago, still available,

It just occured to me that you are located in Germany, too! I never really paid attention to that earlier.

What an incredible bass! Great aquisition, congratulations! I guess, that is the bass that Mica referred to when I had my double neck on order and she wanted show me one they had already made in the past. At that time she could only fax me a b&w picture of really poor quality. Nice to see these pictures.

So, now there are at least two Alembic double necks in Germany. Interesting. Does that make Germany #1 Alembic double neck country or would there be more somewhere else?

I wonder how the 8-string sounds. Must be amazing!

Thank you very much for your kind comments, Hartmut... I just had to laugh out loud when I read this earlier today. You took Peggy as a reference for your own custom order, and for me, it was just the other way around. When I stumbled across this site, first thing I did was studying the COTM posts. I started with the oldest COTM, and I guess I stayed a little too long... ;-) think I'd drop you a personal mail if you like...

That is funny, indeed. It is one of these egg or chicken phenomenons - which one came first? Of course, yours was first - before it was yours. However, I must admit it never had any impact on my order, Mica only had sent it for inspiration, but I found I wanted most things differently. I wanted a doubleneck long before I had ever seen a double neck Alembic.

I guess, it would be fun to get together one day and put them side by side. How about a double doubleneck concert?

Would you care to share (almost sounds like a lyric) some words on the electronics? I would have guessed Series I but it seems to be missing a humcanceller. Maybe this was discussed somewhere else already? What are the controls in the center and how do you switch necks? Curious.

I just wanted to say that Peggy is very beautiful. A couple of months ago I became the guardian for the single-pistol-grip Series I doubleneck that was on the 'Bay. Looking at the pics of Peggy again, they really do look like cousins!

I considered buying the John Judge doubleneck a few years ago, but didn't go through with it. I would love to get an Alembic 8-string at some point though!

Christian, I have a question about Peggy - what is the scale length of the necks? I find the 34 scale of the fretless neck of my doubleneck to be quite a stretch! Looking at some of the pictures it looks like Peggy might be 32? Or even 30?!!!

Hi Harry,
I can tell you firsthand that both necks are 34 scale. To prove it, look at the first picture of this post: Both bridges and nuts are in line.
Christian may be able to measure it for you, however, he'll probably give you a metric measurement! (~864mm?)

Yes, I played it. I was the second owner for a number of years. It was my good friend guitar luthier John Bringe (may he rest in peace) and I that repaired the 8 string LEDs. I had Mica send me a replacement LED strip, and we installed it. It was lovingly cared for, but too heavy for me to play as my principal instrument. It was my first Alembic, so needless to say I was spoiled and couldn't look back to another brand. I got my second Alembic soon after, a 4 string Series 1. Had that for many years too. Now I have neither, but I own a 6 string Europa, and a 5 string fretless Epic with upgraded electronics. I also have a Modulus Graphite Quantum TBX neck thru in cocobolo that I Activated. It has a custom 3 pickup arrangement with the filter and 2 position Q switch - a sound that is hard to beat. Check out the recent thread on John Judge

It's really cool, and will give you some history on the guitar. There's even posts from John himself!
