One just never knows where an Alembic will show up. These photos are from the Black Oak Arkansas web site. The musician's name is Dave Cochran.

It's a funny model. It seems a Series I with a Standard point body but with an extended upper horn.
Are these pictures recent or old??

I think the show was in 2002 but I have no idea how old the bass is.

If you look under Showcase -> Series 1 -> Ernie's Bubinga, you'll see another Series 1 with that body style. Ernie's is an '85.

P.S. I saw Ruby touring with her band, Grey Ghost in Iowa in the 70s just before she hooked up with BOA (who I also saw at the University of Dubuque with Iron Butterfly with Pinera and Rhino in 1970.

You're refering to the live Toad from Wheels of Fire, right? Brilliant! His solo from Blind Faith is good also. I have a cd of the Graham Bond Organization with Ginger & Jack. His solo on that has a lot of the elements from Toad predating Cream by a few years. Good stuff with Jack on the upright bass. I always wanted to be a drummer but couldn't get all four hands and feet doing different things at the same time.

ginger was still doing great work, much more recently. if you haven't heard these discs already, consider checking out 'going back home' and 'falling off the roof', with bill frisell and charlie hayden. also delightful is 'coward of the county' by ginger and the denver jazz quintet, with a few guests that include the terrific james carter on bass clarinet & bari sax (cousin-instruments from the world of wind, for us bass-types!)

these cds are from the late '90s, after ginger had, in fact, fallen off the roof of his house and messed up his right (i think) shoulder

Two other recent recordings worth checking out are Masters of Reality's Riding on the Sufferbus (not sure of the spelling) and Public Image Limited's CD. Ginger proves he still has it on both.
