My dream Elan
« on: July 15, 2006, 09:21:54 AM »
My dream Elan would be a Europa 4 string, Elan body + headstock. Flamed maple top, maple body. See thru black finish, Black hardware (I can't wait to see the black hardware on Charles' Custom Dragonfly)and side leds.

I've owned an xtremely worn Spoiler from '83 (trying to get it back) Before I sold it I had planned to give it a refinish. I wanted to recoat it black allover and go to the powder coater where I used to work to do the hardware, also black. I would have given the bass new Black schallers.. but It's not mine anymore...

I put the Elan in the quote generator this was the output:

Order when monthly special is free LED's, subtract $1100.  Add case for $305.  You're at about $7100 retail.  Figure in normal dealer discount.  Then call Valentino and place your order. It's that easy.

Great tip! Cuts the price for ebony neck lam's in half, that would also be great on a black bass! Still will be around 2010 before i've got that amount of $$$...

I think I saw a couple bunnies eating the leaves from your two trees on another post.  Darn varmints!

They didn't go far... they fell asleep before they had the change to return to their hole.
Me and my friends had Space bunny for dinner!

....Back on topic....
My ultimate dream Elan would be the above but with ebony neck laminates, wood covers, dragon inlay and series I electronics

Cheers!

I'm with you- I love the Elan.  I'm very seriously considering having a 5 string built sometime in the next six months- almost exactly like the wineburst 5 in the showcase section.  Unless I find something else soon, I'll probably go with a tobaccoburst or sunburst finish.

I too am looking at going with the Europa/Rogue electronics.  Did you see the Elan 4 that was up for sale in the Sale section here on the board?

Good luck, keep me in mind if you happen to find a Elan 5 floating around Europe somewhere.

The one from dwmark? I'm the European guy mentioned in the first message. 'Sadly' I just got
the Spoiler then, still searching...
n.b. the Elan you mentioned is beautiful and I do like the 5 strings better (the looks) But as you might have seen in my for sale/trade thread about my 5 string Fender I'm no five string bass player...

Cheers!

Sounds like a killer bass, FC.

Although, you don't have to wait to see black hardware...

Yes, I was referring to the one from dwmark.....I'm glad you at least got first crack at it!

I'm one who bounces between 4 & 5 strings and I'm currently without a 5.  If I can get an Alembic 5, I'm pretty sure I won't miss my current 4 string very often.  It should be the medicine I need to push me to the 5 full time.

Crgaston: ooops... missed that one, thanx! Looks great!

trbannon: maybe some day I will return to 5 strings somewhere in the future, for now I'm thinking of a BEAD setup on my Coco bolo Spoiler

I'll slip this in here.....it seems relevant enough based on how much I like the Elan body style and am since I am considering it for a future custom (3-4 yrs out).

I know that what I'm about to propose isn't a traditional Alembic look, but I'm wondering how an Alembic inspired Jazz bass might come out.

There has been some discussion of Alembic basses which reflect the Fender Jazz bass style, and the Elan is a beautiful interpretation of that body style- Here is one of the more recent threads discussing it.

Just wondering about the possibility of having an inlay on the front (ebony perhaps?) that follows the pickguard lines on a classic Jazz.  It could even have a lamintated inlay w/ a beveled edge that reflects what you see on multiply pickguards....

I totally understand that this is NOT traditional Alembic look, but the Alembird has got me thinking about the possibility of an Alembic Jazz.

Any opinions?

Tom,

I linked that thread about halfway down my post- I was more curious about opinions on a wood inlay on the top to reflect the pickguard.

Thanks though! =)
