Hi Mica, I won a very interested bass on eBay. It is Medium scale 5 strings Series 1 with Small Standard Body. The serial number is 2080 or 2089 that seller said. Please let me know the build record and which is right.

Very unique head shape that I have never seen.

Yeah Dave, I found these pictures in my archives.

Both instruments have Exploiter body. But I have never seen the peghead on Standard bodys. Small standard body balance is head heavy, much more MSB 5 strings. I think, the bass needed such refinement for balance. Eiji

Today I got the Bass. I correct the serial number info. This picture said 82-2050 or 82-2059.

There is the Number 1877 in the cavity.

I add some pictures and info.

Maybe body woods are Walnut top and back, Mahogany core. The tail piece are replaced far from bridge.

Unique head shape, I called it "shaped cone". High C tuner were guitar's tuner. I replaced M4 for bass.

Most problem is the neck. The neck is twisted and paints are peeling off. The bass was used as lefty. (There are side position marks on another side.) I tried truss rod adjustment, but it's still twisted.

The bridge loses all nuts. 1st and 2ed string saddles are grooved for E and A strings. I think the bass needs some repair work. Eiji

I like it! Headstock is not to my personal taste..biased towards the crown. especially with the small body..but bass is very cool!!!

What's with the tailpiece? Is this original? Looks a little bit funky to me.

Marcus, looks to me like maybe a screw hole or two may have been stripped and instead of repairing them they just rotated it a little.
That's a fairly easy fix. The twisted neck may take some worl and time though.

Of the 2 numbers, 82 2059 matches the pictures best. Here's what was in the instrument file:

MSBI5 Series I medium scale bass

top and back: Walnut
body: Mahogany
neck: Maple and Purpleheart, 32 medium scale
fingerboard: Ebony with mother of pearl inlays
tuners: Schaller
electronics: PF6B (Series I)
birthday: March 5, 1982
originally made for: Campo Music

The original registered owner lived in Louisiana. There is no repair or other ownership history on this bass.

The peghead is an early vairation for Spoiler basses and Electrum guitars.

Mica, you state that the Alembic was first registered in Louisiana. I think I know this bass! I am going to search for some pictures of it I took when it was new. I played a festival and shared the bill with the owner of this bass. I took a bunch of pictures of it, I will just need to find them. The bass was new back then. I remember that he had it strung as a 4 string. That may explain the extra grooves cut in the bridge!

I also remember him being quite fascinated with the bass I had then too. It was Alembic 74-62, which was a large pointy bass with a walnut top and cream colored pickups.

Hi Michael,

Please show me the pitures that the bass was new.

The nut has no extra grooves, but it is removeable. Maybe it was used up side down for lefthanded.
There is no extra grooves on the bridge.
1st and 2nd bridge saddles has large grooves for left handed.

Original owner is right handed isn't it ?
The bass was used as left handed by second (or more) owner that I think.
