Hi, Mica
Please pull the file on this bass when you can. It's a six-string Series 2 I expect to take possession of within the next few weeks.
New baby and a new Alembic? Happy me!

A six string Series II; cool!  If you are so inclined, pics would be welcomed!

Of course, as soon as it arrives.
Incidentally, Dave, did you end up getting that six-string Series you mentioned a while back?

Thank you! I thought I saw triple pinstripes...they're just gorgeous.
The 34 scale means I will need a string with a 36 winding length, correct?
Very nice speaking with you last night.

Shawn, we didn't record the winding length, so you'll just have the measure it when you get it. BTW, the store and one other interested party called yesterday, so I think you better secure the deal ASAP.

Happy baby news for you! Mine is exactly one year old now:

This is Erik a couple of weeks ago visiting some friends in Guerneville. Way to thread hijack, eh?

Beat me to it! I was actually going to highjack my own thread and ask if any Alembic onesies for the baby were available. Very cute pic, BTW.
EDIT -- Never mind. I found Alembic creepers on cafepress.

Yes, I did.  It's a steep learning curve, but I'm enjoying every minute of it!

And the pictures are....where?
How are you finding the weight, and the neck? You've got a leg up on me, in that you've owned a 6 before, but I'll tell you, the flexibility of the Series 2 controls are nothing short of phenomenal.

So does this mean curtains for your 4-strings?

The neck is amazing.  Part of the learning curve has been the tight string spacing on the headstock end of the fingerboard; but I think it's going to come with practice.  The weight is not insignificant; I've been thinking about something along the lines of the slider strap that was discussed in a different thread recently.  No pics yet.

Returning to previous hijack.  I agree, pretty cool pic!

Well, after a lot of hassle, it's here. Mother of God, what a bass. Reactions will be forthcoming after I have a chance to play it for a few more hours.
But briefly, I was surprised at how quickly the bass started to feel natural, excepting the huge size and weight. There are a few gouges in the finish and the gold plating on the hardware is pitted (any tips for restoring the shine?), but overall it's in very good shape.
The bad part is that FedEx managed to totally destroy the power supply, while it was encased in bubble wrap, snugly in the pocket of the 60-pound road case. The stereo/mono switch snapped off, screws are floating around loose, and it seems the circuit board was smashed to pieces because I hear thumps and rattles coming from inside the DSR5's chassis.
Unbelievable.
Thankfully, the bass itself seems fine and sounds incredible even strung with light-gauge strings and played through my tiny Peavey Microbass.

Wow!  I can't picture how that could have happened.
