Well, after a lot of hassle, it's here. Mother of God, what a bass. Reactions will be forthcoming after I have a chance to play it for a few more hours.
But briefly, I was surprised at how quickly the bass started to feel natural, excepting the huge size and weight. There are a few gouges in the finish and the gold plating on the hardware is pitted (any tips for restoring the shine?), but overall it's in very good shape.
The bad part is that FedEx managed to totally destroy the power supply, while it was encased in bubble wrap, snugly in the pocket of the 60-pound road case. The stereo/mono switch snapped off, screws are floating around loose, and it seems the circuit board was smashed to pieces because I hear thumps and rattles coming from inside the DSR5's chassis.
Unbelievable.
Thankfully, the bass itself seems fine and sounds incredible even strung with light-gauge strings and played through my tiny Peavey Microbass.
