Creatively well done.

Personally, I prefer a great deal more armor between myself & the populace at large...better safe than sorry.

That thing may not use much in the way of fuel, but if someone hit you, I think it'd crumple like a piece of used tissue paper.

Here's hoping the auto gods are looking out over you...

Hi Pas, I went through that thought years ago before I considered buying the car and did a lot of on-line research on the safety aspect of the car, checked the encap site and the crash test statistics etc and as a result I felt confident in buying the car. I have been driving since 1979 and no one has ever run into me on the road, and i have never ran into anyone else so i also figured why is that suddenly gonna change because I have a small car.

Anyway so far, so good. In fact like you I've always preferred more metal between me and other idiot's on the road too. I have always had larger cars, by UK Standards anyway, and do have another larger car which I use more often for gigs these days unless I'm carrying a small guitar rig. Nowadays I wouldn't fill the car up like that.

Although I've been to Amsterdam and back in my smart car, it's really geared to being a town car and for running about town it's been a great car and saved me shed loads in petrol.

How's the fuel consumption Jazzy? I have a Skoda Octavia estate and I carry my rig (2x12, 4x10 and 6 space rack) plus the band's PA speakers - a pair of stand mounted powered 12 wharfedales plus one of the monitors, aswell as 2 basses and a few bags of cables etc. On a recent trip from edinburgh up to Skye, I averaged 58.7 mpg which I thought was amazing considering the weight in the car - all that lot plus mrs J and luggage.
Occasionally i need to put the roofbox on to transport the lighting rig too but that brings down the fuel consumption a fair bit to around 50mpg.

I haven't checked my average for ages but it takes about 7 gallons of petrol and i get usually between 420 to 450 miles out of that on combined town and motorway.

I did drive from Brum to Amsterdam and back about 3 yrs ago and did it just over 2 tanks of petrol.

The downside of it for me is just that It could do with more power when pulling off and overtaking but no more on the top end. Going up any kind of incline on a motorway slows you down by about 15 to 20mph depending on how steep and who is the passenger.

Forget speed... Give me a slow moving tank, and I'll just pay general liability for the other guy if I am at fault...

I suspect the Smart Kit Cars on Youtube are really photo-shopped. I don't believe the smart engine has the torque to effectively power such large wheels.

No wonder it failed it's MoT on broken suspension..now gone to car park in the sky and I don't do PA anymore..thank God!!

A hot rodded smart car like those would be great if you kept it looking standard. It's so funny when I pull alongside guys in bigger faster cars at the lights and get off the mark before them. They do absolutely anything to get past me..... Worse on the motorway, coming up behind a car in the fast lane and flashing them to move over, once I get alongside them they realise they are going to be overtaken by the smallest car on the road, they put their foot down.
