My Awesome Wife is an Artist so I am lucky that she wants me to pursue my creative desires. All her siblings are musical and she has also started taking voice lessons. She is sympathetic to my musical urges , so it's instruments & gear for me. I am a lucky man .

I bought a dirt bike 2 years ago & have broken my leg & my thumb in 2 seperate crashes. After the 2nd crash that broke my thumb I told my wife I was selling the dirt bike & wanted to use the money to buy a new Alembic. She asked what it cost, & after a huge gasp from her, she was OK with me buying it! It was worth it to her to get me off the dirt bike! I originally wanted a SC Brown bass which was $1000 cheaper than my Signature, but when my wife saw the pictures Mica sent of the Signature she told me I should get that one because it was prettier! I took her advice & have no regrets! She even named my bass "Coco" for the cocobolo wood it is made with!

The fEarful is, IMHO, one of the best cabinets available for your Alembic, and one made with Nidacore composite would be around 30 lbs and able to put out very serious SPL, like one of them equivalent to 2 Acme B-2s.

That was an easy one for me Joey. Back in 1995 I managed to convince my better half that I needed to move to a five string which resulted in my Epic. Jumping to 2004 I managed to convince her that I need a five string fretless so I was able to custom order my Rogue.
The '07 MK deluxe was meant to be my 50th birthday present but the pound was so strong against the dollar at the time that it made way more sense to buy it 4 years early :-)

Bradley, thanks for the link, I somehow missed it over there. The builder is in the Hartford area and I'm in R.I. so I think that I just might give him a call. I generally don't have a problem lifting my cabinet. I just recently bought a Shuttle 9.0 to retire the 50# rack. A 35# cab with a return to a 15 speaker has my interest though. I'm almost 59 and that could add a few more years to my giging days.

Ditto's on the heads up re: the fEarful Nidacore build Brad! Im about 15 miles from where the build is taking place and I'd love to hear 'em as well!!!!

Sorry for the hi-jack... My way of dealing w/ Senior Mgmt. is as follows: I buy my wife a guitar every couple of years, and then lay into her as to why she never plays.

My mom lamented for years that she couldn't help me out with money to buy a really nice bass at the NAMM show, where there are not only some unbelievable one-of-a-kind basses on display but many are also for sale at ridiculous discounts.

So that never happened but what she couldn't do in life she managed in the hereafter through my inheritance.

I've wanted an Alembic since seeing Stan the Man, Alex Blake and Tom Fowler in the 70's (I'm 56). I got Mary with my mom's initials at the 12th fret on an otherwise blank neck. She's still my reference point.

My girlfriend had no problem with that!

My sweetie decided two years ago that she was going to... (drumroll, please)... play bass. All of a sudden, there was no such thing as having too many basses. Now she can use any of my basses that she wants, so how could she complain? Talk about lucky! Of course, now when she plays bass I am forced to play guitar. I think I may need another one of those...

I sold a Martin, a bass, and some other random music related gear. As long as my hobbies are self-sustaining and don't come out of the general fund too much, everybody's happy. That and I just bought her a macbook.

I should be picking up my Orion tomorrow.

My other hobbies are Nordic skiing in which I serve as a coach (and get to keep the additional funds I bring in to the family) and cycling. When I first discussed purchasing a used Distillate, the question my wife asked was, how much does it cost compared to one of your bikes or your ski gear. Given that each of the four bicycles I own go for between $3,000-$8,000, dropping $1,800 on an Alembic to complement the 73' EB-3 I had been playing seemed quite reasonable to her. So my advice is...develop a second hobbie that's even more expensive than collecting Alembics. The cost of an additional bass now and then doesn't seem so bad (haha).
