Aloha, I was reading through these messages and I saw a mention of the fisrt Alembic Conference?  Wow, what a thing that would be.  I for one would love to attend something like that.  Just imagine, all kinds of Alembics under one roof.  What an awsome experience that would be!!!!!  Heaven on earth.

OK ,I'm new to the photoshop thing so here goes!!  Thanks to all who participated in what I believe is the first regional Alembic club meeting! There were four Alembicans in attendance with several more enthusiasts/intersted parties/ possible future owners gawking at the wonderful collection of instruments. Between us all there were nine basses and one guitar. It's amazing to see again and again how players become instantly "Alembicized" after only a few short minutes of exposure to these instruments! I think we have one guitarist seriously thinking about selling his Les Paul to get his hands on that Skylark!! After swapping Alembic stories, we had a "mini bass orchestra" type jam with four bassists, one guitatist and drummer! I think every one had a great time and we've talked about making it an annual event. By the way, the cocobolo Essence on the right is the same one in the Alembic store, courtesy of Tom Gardiner, the local Alembic rep who was also kind enough to bring his collection  of personal basses including the only Series instruments in attendance. Thanks again and maybey we can get the national club meeting going soon! Mike

Mauibassplayer, there has been quite a lengthy discussion about an Alembic convention in central/northern Cal.  It is under Alembic Basses and Guitars, Archive through Feb 24, Alembic Convention for Alembicians and Potential Alembicians.  There are a few other threads with the same name but the one I mentioned has the most discussion on it.  I don't know how the organization of it is going.  There hasn't been a post on it in about 2 months but maybe they're still working on it.
An Alembic meeting is a lot of fun.  Meeting and talking to other people who have an appreciation for Alembics and seeing and hearing a wide variety of basses was great.  If you live in the boonies like I do, you have virtually no opportunity to see and hear any Alembics other than the ones you own.
Good luck to the Cal Alembiconventionaires.
Rich

Great pics, Mike!  Now that you've identified the important stuff, it might be helpful to some of us if you could identify the rest of the humans.

All you SLCers:

It's been a blast watching this event develop here on the web site, culminating in the pictures - almost like watching an FTC thread.  You guys look like you had a great time - I'm definitely jealous.
