Adhesive on rear panel of my 1983 Spoiler
« on: August 27, 2021, 10:04:08 AM »
Hello, all- A question- I just purchased my first Alembic, a 1983 Spoiler, in the process of cleaning it up- looks like the rear plastic panel/cover over the pots still has almost all of the paper/plastic/adhesive on it from its original owner? Who can say. What's the best way to remove that without scratching the daylights out of the panel? Nail polish remover? Soak in vinegar? Any other ideas? Thank you in advance!

I use Goo Gone and a fingernail but you might want to test it on a small area first. You also might first try just soaking it in hot water.

That stuff is an absolute nightmare to get off!  :P

I peeled as much as I could, then used a lacquer cleaner solvent. If I had it to do over, I'd probably try the hot water David suggested.

I used a belt buckle on my Distillate.   :o

Kidding, just kidding.

These are beautifully crafted pieces of art that make glorious sounds.

Me and my bass have seen good and bad times, tender and tough times, there are nicks and dings from years of intimate use (and yes some belt buckle rash).  It gives it personality.  And dang if it doesn’t still sound great!

I would try WD40.  If it does get scratched Flitz or Mother’s are nice polishing compounds (even toothpaste will work).

Paul (who believes that until you ding a fender you really don’t know how wide you car is…)

P.S.  these days I wear suspenders
