First Alembic
« on: March 14, 2021, 05:38:22 PM »
All I can say, it was my time. I looked at this one. A lot. Online. In person. Walked away from it twice, but it was always on my mind. Most of the past few years have been in “collection” mode, but now I want to have one that can do it all. This one is it. Or, at least I’m learning how it can be. The few hours I played it in store were good. Good enough to finally buy it. Today, I cleaned it up, changed the batteries, and played it with my amp. Just wow. Truly an unending array of tones. I’m sure this is going to be a great friendship. And, photo.

Welcome, that is a great looking bass, and a great first entry point into the brand. This is the best place to get the lowdown on these basses. If you are a gigging bassist, your first gig with it will be a revelation.

Thanks... I read a lot of posts here before buying. I was sad because I couldn’t search or ask questions until I created a login, understandable, but I didn’t want to get that far ahead of myself. These are truly wonderful, albeit, different instruments.

It’s my second top of this type. I have to admit that I didn’t think one could be so beautiful. The depth and richness that they coaxed out of this glorious piece of wood reveals more and more every time I look at it. I’ve bought basses from “custom” shops that make claims about 5A tops. If that’s the case, how many A’s are needed for these?

I gig, but not like many still do. Or, maybe want to is better. I play out at least twice a week. However, to your point, I believe that is completely accurate. My short time playing/learning at this point has revealed tones and small levels of adjustments that I never thought possible. I’m certain that will continue to bloom.

Blue buckeye burl is my favorite top wood with flamed spalted maple being a close second. Congratulations.

What a nice bird-like wood figuring taking flight at the headstock, welcome Juju.

It’s been about 6 weeks and I haven’t played another bass. Nothing else has the flexibility of tone, the playability and feel, nor the looks.
