Not much more to be said about this one except it looking West over South Puget Sound in WA state…..from my hot tub.

The last one is looking Northwest to the Olympic Mountain Range.

Nice critter pics! I've got a regular visitor coming to my trash can at night I'm trying to get a mugshot of... he/she/they are a young black bear, too young to understand there is no edible trash in my can, but sharp enough to have figured out that every other big black plastic thing shaped like that is likely to be full of good things. I'm worried it eventually decides to bypass the trash can and go for the open window...

Here are some pictures from a recent pilgrimage up Fort Lewis Mountain. I climb up here a couple times each year for a look-see... these woods are beautiful, unspoiled for the most part. Nobody much comes up here but me, and I have built little stone monuments to mark a trail. From what I read, Havens Wildlife Management Area is a State, rather than a National Forest. It was established after being logged in the 1930's. The odd-looking rocket-shaped thing is a VOR station, something aircraft use for navigation. From what I understand, these are being phased out. Indeed, the site looks somewhat abandoned.

It was a nice day up there. Probably 30+ miles of visibility.

*here is the route from my house in Masons Cove valley up that ridge...

Nice shots, Greg; and a nice hike.  How far out and back?

Wow - lovely, Greg!  The only reason I'm not putting that #2 on my "Where To Hike" list (the Chilkoot Trail is #1) is that a quack surgeon rendered me no longer capable of hiking anywhere.

I don't think it's very far, at least not in mileage, (I walk about 6 miles a day, regularly) but it's several hundred feet of vertical climb to the top. The summit of Fort Lewis is 3220', my house is at about 1400'. Itsa' hike... about 3 hours up, and 2 to get back.  :P

So linking to the Solstice thread here is a distant out of focus of the Return of Richard.

... the Return of Richard.

Wow; that looks like something from a magical fantasy story.

Wow; that looks like something from a magical fantasy story.

It is recognized as being magical.  Filled with joy when he was seen again.
It may have been mentioned in the other thread - we haven't seen him since last August - my mind painted a dark picture to his fate... and then on the Solstice he shows up (with a friend!).
Last year I observed him approaching a 'normal' deer in the pasture and the other deer seemed spooked by his appearance and took off.   Here they appeared calm and comfortable together.

So yea - happy happy happy! (and magical)
