Adriaan:  I had no idea that comparing any product to a Lamborghini could be construed as an insult!  As to whether all Alembics are basses, preamps, guitars:  Some Alembic products are pickups and other accessories; and some vintage Alembic products are speaker cabinets.  Sadly, none are cars (I'd drive one!).  Happily, I feel certain that none are farm machinery.  But, I guess I didn't know all I thought...

No doubt they do...but I understand they consider it bad form (and bad luck!) to discuss publicly.  So, while we all know them 'stills is out ther' in dem woods, out back, I think we should leave those kind of alembics off the farm machinery inventory (At least the one that 'revenuin' tax feller' gets to see...).

If you visit a wine museum in France (there's plenty of those around) they usually have an alambic on display. They'll tell you what they did with it, but they won't let you play it. The French are still distilling 'eau de' whatever - beer, wine, fruit, you name it - and they must still be using an alambic-like apparatus for that, I think.  
 
If you ever visit the Alsace, Colmar is a good place to start. And if you thought Mel Gibson's protrayal of the passion of Christ was bloody, check out the 15th C. Issenheimer altar by Mathias Gr?newald at the Mus?e d'Unterlinden - nothing new under the sun.
