Please, folks... NOT DRINK AND DRIVE !
« on: March 12, 2007, 03:31:08 PM »
well, you all know these jokes: Now I don't drink and drive ! ... I'm always drunk before...

ha, ha, ha, one of my favourites! just about four hours ago, I suddenly came to a slighty different point of view when a drunk van driver led his vehicle right on my lane and I was just being able to avoid a full frontal crash. No human damage done, but my car looked way better before. Three hours of waiting for the police, answering questions, having arguments with the drunk driver, other cars speeding along like there'll be no tomorrow, getting the car to the next garage for a (possible ?) repair, getting home, calming down, posting in the club... hey, I have still to inform my insurance company.

Yes, you are right, the most important thing is that everybody involved is okay. But, boy, what a happening this night !

Stay sober when you drive, I want to meet you all in another way !

Christian,
I'm glad you're okay. Even if your car is terminated you can always get another.
Over here, I believe the most common joke is Don't drink & drive..you might spill it.

Amen to that, Christian, glad to hear you're ok.

I will also add my wish: please don't talk on your cell phone and drive either, since tests in many countries show that a driver on the phone is about as likely to crash as a drunk.

As an attorney who has represented numerous people charged with DUI over the years, I can unconditionally state that a taxi is MUCH cheaper than a driving under the influence ticket.  (I NEVER drink and drive - I can't afford myself!)

Former DUI Counselor Arrested For Public Intoxication

March 12, 2007 09:23 PM CST

'Lebanon police arrested Willie Lovejoy over the weekend for public intoxication, which was his second alcohol-related arrest even though he once mentored people convicted of DUI.

Officers said Lovejoy was leaving a restaurant when he fell down trying to get into a vehicle. The report also said Lovejoy had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Lovejoy was arrested and charged with DUI last December in Goodlettsville. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.13.'

Thank you very much for your kind words. I slept fairly well last night, and I don't seem to have any physical problems. Luckily, there was a speed limt of 50 mph on the road. I like to drive fast wherever I can, but I'm no speeding ticket collector.

Now, I'm really heavy-hearted, because I have to inspect my car in daylight in about an hour... March doesn't turn out to be my lucky month this year, since we lost our beloved Collie dog Lady Silva von Obentraut last Wednesday. Please see my profile... Yeah, it's NOT ME !

Once again, thank you folks.

I am glad you are OK. Just yesterday, a young man was sentenced to 20 years for killing some friends who were passengers in his car when crashed it while drunk. As a gigging musician, this is one of my terrors. There are several parts of road that I must travel to get home that just scare the pants off me. I always leave as much room between me and other cars, in front, back and the sides, as I can.

Once again, I am glad that this post wasn't what I thought it might be when I saw the title.

RIP Pat Lyman and all the other bass players we've lost to drunk drivers.

Val- In CA, driving on the cell phone has been outlawed starting (I think) July 1, 2008.

Yes 7/1/08.  It will allow for use of a hands-free device.  First offense = $20 fine.  Subsequent offenses = $50.

Our local story is about trying to recall our District Attorney.  Among many other things she plea bargained with a guy who was driving while admittedly high on meth and crashed into a local guy, killing him.  He plead guilty to misdemeanor careless driving resulting in death.  I'm circulating a section of the recall petition.  She has done so much to harm this community, ignoring real crimes and aggressively pursuing non-crimes.  It's past time we got her out.

I know that, Dave, I can't wait. Though studies show that even hands free is not much better. The problem is attention deficiency, more than having your hands full, although that does not help either.

I have to say the fines don't sound all that dicouraging or fair. I remember being fined 50$ a few years back for not wearing my seatbelt. I think driving while on the phone is much more dangerous than driving without a seatbelt (of course you should wear a seatbelt and I do all the time now; that day was an exception, really) and the fine should reflect that.

Valentino,

But having a conversation, or eating a sandwich, or listening to the radio (changing the station), or any number of activities would affect the same attention deficit effect.
