I lost my Job
« on: October 28, 2009, 01:20:17 PM »
I lost my job or more acuurately it was stolen from me!

Due to the take-over of my company by a large multi national I was made redundant.

Send out some positive vibes please.
I know that with a concerted effort from the good folks here - Karma shall win the day.

I am over 50 and over qualified for a number of the jobs I have applied for.

Lots of good vibes your way slawie!
I know the feeling as I fall in the same category and situation.
I've been able to get a bit of contract work to make ends meet.
All the best!

I too, know how you feel. I don't even get acknowledgments anymore for resumes I send out.

Keep the faith bro, something will happen.

Positive vibes are headed down under!

Slawie,
Man, I wish you the best possible.
I don't know if it helps, but I once heard a saying that kept me going on several occasions: If one thing goes, it's because a better one is to come.
These are probably  going to be hard times, but I'm sure you can overcome it.
Because in the end, it is just a job. One of the hundred chapters of life, and now it's time to start a new one. Remember to keep living, don't let it hold you back.

I'm really hoping the best for you!

Greg

Slawie,

Sorry to hear about that.  I wish you the best and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.  You will find the right job, or the right job will find you, sooner than you think!

Stay positive!

Oh f***k slawie..just about happened to me(and about 12 others) at the company I work at.
Mind you we got a takeover and kept our jobs thru TUPE - this is a UK term meaning our original contracts go with the company, this is the third time for me and the last company kept us hanging on for nearly a year about looking for a buyer.
I am over 50 as well and it is worrying that no one will want you because of age although we have an Age Discrimination Act here in the UK but whether it has any clout I am dubious.
here in Teesside UK we have had 3 major chemical companies go down and a steel works..since the area is steeped in this heavy industry it is very worrying for everyone
Hope you get another job and best of luck for the future..keep us all informed.

Try to find a way to go into business for yourself...otherwise you'll always be someone's overhead...that they're looking to eliminate.

I've been layed off on more than one occasion, and it was sufficient motivation for me to pursue self employment.

Best of luck to you.

Wishing you all the best Slawie....  Without sounding too much like your horoscope, if you ever thought of working for yourself, doing what you love, now's the time!

Slawie--Hang in there.  I lost my job--actually a career--when I was in my mid-40's.  At the time I thought it was one of the worst things that ever happened to me, and there were some nerve-wracking moments in the months that followed.  However, it turned out to be one of the greatest blessings of my life, and I found a new career in which I've been much happier, personally and professionally.  I will keep you in my prayers.  The right opportunity will come along, just don't give up.

Regards,

Eric

Losing a job, is that all?

Now, you'll know your true friends....

Cheer up, my friend...
You'll find work again, because there are too many dumb dumbs I know who are working, and most of them are managers.
