I'm currently playing my baritone tuned to B. I'd like to go down to E, a full octave. When I did that, the strings were floppy. What strings should I get for this? XL? Like 52-12? I think they're 65-13 right now. Thanks in advance.

I also play a baritone. If you want to play in that bass guitar range without floppyness you will probably need to look more to the bass string range. Probably .100 for the low string to .025 on the high string. You will need to modify your nut and saddle however as well as the truss. Hope this helps.

How about Jerry Jones six string bass string? The gauge is 084 072 056 044 034 024 EADGBE.

I'll check them out. Thanks. What should I use to polish the body? It's an oil finish. Tung oil? I saw the losts for fretobards and lemon oil/tung discussions.

It's not an oil finish, but polyurethane which was used for Epics, Orions, Rogues and Excels for the first few years. Check the FAQ section for care instructions - IIRC it's the same as for the glossy finishes.

I pulled up the old Ebay auction- it looks like the headstock is Wenge- is the top wood the same?

If so, I think Adriaan is right about the finish. I had a Wenge Rogue that had the old poly finish on it. I could still feel the grain on mine too- the wenge is pretty porous and you can feel the grain even with the poly finish they used then.

If you could post a picture of the top we could confirm it for you.
