Looking for my first Alembic
« on: January 29, 2012, 04:13:52 PM »
Hello, I'm looking to buy an Alembic but I need your opinion. I live in Argentina. In my country is very difficult to find an Alembic but a few days ago, I found one. I want to buy it but first I want to know: It's an original Alembic? It's a good model?

Thank you for your time and sorry for my basic english, this is the link with pictures:

I'll pay arround U$S 2.200 (remember, Alembic is very exclusive here)

I'm not very knowledgeable on this model of bass but it sure looks genuine to me. I'm sure some others will chip in, there are a few wise members with good knowledge of Excel basses so I'm sure you will get more information soon.

If  you can ask the seller to take a  photo of the inside of the back cover so we can check that the electronics are original that would also be good. We have seen a few basses that have been up for sale and have the original alembic electronics removed and other systems put inside the bass instead. So it would be good to check that side is genuine too.

Check out these two pages you will find out more on this type of Alembic.

The X in the code is the right code for that bass

Jazzyvee, thank you for your quickly answer! I'll ask a photo of the inside to check all.
Caught my attention that only has one mic because allways when I saw an Alembic, has more of one, but searching information I could find the same model but built with differents woods.

This is indeed a 1999 Excel model, which was offered as a single pickup instrument until around 2005 or so. As to the originality of the electronics, as jazzyvee mentioned, the only way to tell would be to view inside the control cavity. However, everything else does appear to be totally original.

Hello willgunn! Thank you for your message. What did you say with a single pickup instrument?? Because I don't speack english very well and I can't understand the translation.

I think is a cheap model, this is true?? If I travel to USA can I find a best model for this money??

Other question, this model is better than a Marcus Miller's Fender?? Or is completely different??

Single pickup means 1 pickup. Marus Miller Fender is a custom Fender Jazz bass which has 2 pickups. Is this Alembic a cheap bass? I would say no. I would say that the Alembic is a different style of bass. For $2700, I might wait until some think else becomes available. I've shipped instruments to Mexico and Germany. The problem is customs charges will be over $300 if you should buy a bass from someone in the U.S.

I tried some different translations:
Solo significa 1 camionetas pick-up. He enviado instrumentos para M?xico y Alemania. El problema es gastos de aduana ser? de m?s de $300 si usted debe comprar un bass de alguien en los ESTADOS UNIDOS.

I have a nice 1985 Distillate for sale in the other section. At $2350 you could add the out of country shipping and still be where you want.
