You should contact Alembic directly via e-mail or telephone (fastest method) to get a quote for a new pickup and shipping.

Okay germansal before you do anything at all we all need to know:-
What bass have you got
What are the actual problems you have

Without dissing your guitar tech sometimes it maybe a very minor fault. Alembic pick ups are encased in epoxy and are just about indestructible in normal use..I think I have heard of only one case of a pick up going bad.
there are many variables such as
Are the pots touching the conductive paint
Has the connector broke
Are the pre amps working
Is the battery new
All of us here at the forum have a vast amount of imformation and if all else fails then call Alembic!

MY BASS IS AN SERIES 1 1979 4 STRINGS
MY BASS TECH HERE IN SPAIN TOLD ME THAT THERE S A PROBLEM INSIDE THE PICKUP,AND HE ALSO TOLD ME ABOUT THE EPOXY STUFF
ALL THIS NIGTHMARE STARTED WITH THE PICK MAKING A TERRIFIC NOISE
SO RIGTH NOW I,M USING ONLY THE NECK PICKUP

do you have the power supply & cable?....the jacks on alembics in the late 70's are mono that's why you only have the front pickup, both pickups will work with the 5 pin cable & power supply with a standard 1/4 plug.

One thing you can try is to swap the wiring on the two pickups and see if the problem stays with the same pickup (bad pickup) or changes to the other pickup (problem is not the pickup).

Sounds like the pick up has gone microphonic but this very rare.
I would try everyone's suggestions, sorry I cannot offer more but I own a mono Signature bass and have no experience of SI & II basses with their associated power supply & cables

I'm thinking serialnumber12 may have hit it on the head... Are you running through the power supply or running off the 1/4 inch jack? Other than a friend trying to lower the neck pick-up for ease of slapping on a 70's Series I and having it break in the middle, I'm not aware of the failure of any Alembic pick-up.

Plugging in a 1/4 inch cable on an older Series bass will render the bridge pick-up inoperable...
