I can see possible inaccuracies in the description . What do you all see ? Let's pick this one apart and evaluate it. It's a quite interesting Bass . Look at the neck heal ,etc ...  .... ....  Hardware ___ etc... ... Electronics , or lack of.   What do you all think . Who made this ?

No clue.  I like a couple of things about it though.  It's medium scale, and that scalloped bridge.  It is also nice to see that no one moved the strap button yet.

Not too sure about the rest.

The way the neck-through configuration was implemented would make me doubt that it came out of Alembic, shop night or not.  Anything is possible though.  The knobs and switches don't match Alembic hardware either, but I don't know about the pots.  I would guess that it's a really well-done one-off copy, kind of like the bass Mark King holds in the Rotosound ad from back in the day..

Yeah, that heel looks really clumsy.

Peter , yes my thoughts as well.
John, yes; the neck through configuration is different , to what we used   to seeing; is it good or bad ?

It's probably fine from a structural standpoint, it's just not something I've ever seen on an Alembic so it comes off as a bit of a divergence from what they're already setup to build. Might still be a very fine bass..

well, the actual maker chimed in in the comments:
hi - my name is Mark Campellone - I'm the guy who built this bass you have for sale here on ebay - a friend of mine happened to see it posted, thought it might be one of mine, and told me about it, so I checked out your listing - thought I might provide some more accurate details about the instrument (if you're interested). The bass (#38 of 102 basses I built) was made in my Rhode Island shop in 1982 - the letters on the peghead are actually MC, my initials - the electronics are not ALEMBIC - I normally used Bartolini electronics and this one sounds like it would be a Bartolini EZQ pre-amp which is a variable Q low pass filter, a type of tone control similar to what's found in many ALEMBICS - the bridge and tailpiece resemble ALEMBIC parts, but they are not - I fabricated them myself from solid brass - if you have any questions feel free to contact me. Mark

so, not an alembic, not a shop nite instrument, no alembic parts whatsoever.

Bob , Thanks for posting this here. This is a confirmation to my suspected inaccuracies in the auction description. It appears the seller made assumptions in the description due to resemblances in general appearance , a  little information but not enough .It was fun to find out the facts.

My first guess would've been that this was a Ken Smith employee/shop night project.

I had no idea that Mark built basses back in the day. My wife occasionally sits in with a guy that has one of his archtops, and it is a really nice guitar! ...... if I was ever in the market for another jazz box, I'd have no hesitation giving him a call. He's incorporated a lot of nice attributes from some of my favorite guitars, and he's local.....
