a verified Alembic bolt-on body?
That's a rare bird...it looks like Hi-A pickups,
or the large logo EMGs.

Huh... interesting. I believe they are the old BIG logo EMG's. I had some of those in the shop one time, but no mounting hardware. They ended up in an SG a buddy of mine had.

Every time I see one of those Modulus`Alembic necks it reminds me of the mysterious graphite-necked Standard Point bass McVie had. I've long suspected it was a repaired neck-through bass, possibly an employee shop-night custom. Not the first graphite-necked Alembic circa 1976... this one - the Penguin & Porpoise bass:

Can't tell from any of the pictures, but that *could* be a bolted-in neck. I'd be surprised if it wasn't actually.

Yes, PhotoShopping the pics shows large logo EMG pickups on this one. The knobs look like Alembic knobs.

This bass is at a very cool mom & pop guitar store here in Oakland. It is a modulus neck hooked up with an Alembic Exploiter body that had some problems and was converted to a bolt-on. It was a presentation piece for the publisher of BAM magazine, a Bay Area free music weekly that was around from the 70's until about 15 years ago. The neck/pocket connection was not the cleanest when I saw it, but the ad says they cleaned it up. They also had a Telecaster with the thinnest Modulus neck I've ever seen. I don't know if that one has sold.

That is not an Alembic body. Period. It's not one of our templates, and the roundover is not correct. If if were an Alembic, it would have have this thing called a neck running down the middle, not a decorative strip. Not sure what lady they say they talked with, but none of the current ladies (we have three) recall seeing this guitar.

The notion that it was converted to a bolt-on is laughable. This was obviously intended from the origin to not be neck-through. You guys already knew that though.

Maybe a shop night, but not what we call Alembic around here.

The guy at the shop told me they had spoken with someone at Alembic who verified this piece. Mica says something else. Mica has more credibility on this one. I stand corrected.

No biggie, Bill - you were just going by what they said With your recommendation of the shop, I would chalk it up to a misunderstanding if they spoke to someone over the phone. There's no way we can verify much of anything without a visual.
