My list of friends includes some I only know through facebook. I am aware of all the arguments against FB and have no rebuttal except this: Thanks to my love of aviation history, I have an Italian friend who shares the most incredible and rare shots of WWII Italian warplanes and pilots (all with Italian captions I can't understand, mind you) that are simply a joy. And thanks to him I have a new-found appreciation of Holocaust Day and the particulars of humanity at its worst, followed by its best.
At the other end of the spectrum, I've gotten more personal communications from fellow Alembic fans via FB than even from our forum. My point is that you can control your degree of immersion and participation in FB by your privacy and other settings. It is what you make of it.
If you subscribe to the belief that art in general and music in particular will point the way to Mankind overcoming our shortcomings, then FB is just another conduit to that end.
I'm finished. Soapbox air is too rarified to remain lucid for long. And my Alembic bass is telling me to shut up and play!
