When i was with Vanessa Davis Band and we'd play Oscar's, in Bloomington, IN, where the dressing room was under the stage, their excellent sax man Doug Cannon would warm by playing into the wall of the stairway; not quite this but one of the finest sax tones I've ever heard.  I love finding sweet acoustics in strange places (in college I spent more than I should have in the dorm stairwell, drunk & singing sad songs.....)

I had a biology/physiology teacher in high school who played sax in a band... the After Six Band. Mr. Lough used to practice after school in the men's room at the end of the hall from his classroom, for the acoustic properties of high ceilings and tiled walls. 

Just because youtube shoved it in my face.

Heard this on WMSE this morning driving into work.
It hits deep for me.   Has that Wichita Lineman energy.

I'm still copied on the oldtyme band group-chat. The other day one of them posted this catchy fiddle tune.


*It's really unusual for a string band to play an instrumental tune in a flat (in this case, Bb) creating a lot of closed notes. I wonder if they actually did, or if they tuned up a half-step? Not questioning the ability or work ethic, just the reasoning. Barlow Knife is usually a G tune when jammed here, but may be another key regionally.

Just one of those days where I wanna' wipe myself outta' my own computer. 

My copy of this album was destroyed when we moved from Foley Street. HPL Liemans visited the shop in 1982. I was in 6th grade and once a week, the last period of the day was split in 2, music with the other 6th grade teacher and German with mine. Well I was pretty happy to meet someone from Germany at 11 years old! He patiently talked to me in my little bit of German and gave us this album, Sternstunde which he plays a Series I bass on.


Imagine the shock on my teacher and fellow students faces when I brought this in to share!


Anyway, edited to say I forgot to mention I've been listening to the tracks that are on YouTube and really enjoying them, especially this one.
