Quote from: Nova Constellatio on July 06, 2026, 10:03:09 AMA song about songwriter Jackson Frank, who I think she dated at some point. I've always found him interesting, as he grew up near where I did, just outside of Buffalo.

I'm a long-time Sandy Denny fan.  Thanks, good to hear her again.

I don't listen to much vocal music, but this is one of my favorite Neil Young songs, and it's a beautiful arrangement.

Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris - After the Gold Rush

Tuesday Night Bluegrass at The Ryman this week was Sierra Hull's band. They brought out a special guest fiddler and singer. Sierra put it all in context.

*not to cut her husband Justin short on dorbro and banjo there... he's pretty special too. After all, the guest fiddler sang at their wedding.

Well, I think we all know that when I read "special guest fiddler", this is exactly who I was expecting (and hoping for!)

I thought the ol' girl acquitted herself well playin' with them kids... she didn't back up a bit. 😆

This was nice too. Sierra passing it on, from the same spot.

And yet I still think of the lovely & talented Ms. Krauss as one of "them kids"......
Yeah, I'm old.

Both of those "Trio" records made their way through my musical circles too. That's some great music.

It's funny, the timewarp. Coz says above he's old. But it's all relative... Alison is 55 in a couple weeks, two years younger than me, almost exactly. Generationally at least, we grew up in this music at the same time. As evidenced by my last couple posts, it's into a 3rd generation now for us. Kids young enough to be our kids have kids that are starting to play. By the time I/we started gigging in the late 1980's, having the fairer sex in bluegrass bands was not only pretty normal, but becoming encouraged. Girls could easily reach the high harmony parts we only dreamed of, and quite a few of them could play circles around us. It kinda' changed the band dynamics too once the hormones got involved but most of us outgrew that and got to work like any other band does. The other thing that happened was the girls brought in songs they wanted to try, and among that were the Dolly, Emmylou, & Linda "Trio" and later "Trio II" records. Fair was fair, we had new tunes to work up. When Alison broke through to mainstream, it really changed the game for so many people. Sierra is 34 now, and just like a little kid again up there. It must be wild for Alison too, to remember that same little girl drawing pictures of her.

It's really something watching this play out now.

Forgot what I was posting about. Here's one from that album that made the rounds in a band I was in with quite a few XX chromosomes.

I have a song idea flitting around what I laughingly call my brain for a while now, in which I characterize perfection as Porter & Dolly, as well as Gram & Emmylou; don't have a like simile for Linda, but the bunch of them sure do work together; 3 of my all-time fav singers!

Peter (who, this being a serious musical discussion, will refrain from adding that he has long had impure about each & every one of them - and together?  Oh, my.....)

Set closer from Tuesday night.

The palm-muted segment from about [1:20] in is mind-blowing.
