I've seen that one. Coincidentally, been listening to an older Greatest Hits CD in the shop today.  I think most tracks were before our buddy Jimmy J's time, but for sure he studied these recordings well. I've asked him about his notes on a couple of them before.

James had a stellar career if he quit 10 years ago tomorrow. What a player. In 1970 I was just a squirming young'un not far from the fabled Copperline he wrote about in Piedmont of North Carolina.

I've seen 2 excellent BBC shows by JT back then; the solo one you reference & one with Russ Kunkel, Lee Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, Carole King, and a few others.  Both are highly recommended.

Peter (who will go Greg a few better, and say that if he'd quit by 1980, he'd still be a legend)

Margo is another one of the apprentices at the shop of my friend and mentor Ward Elliott. I'm around her every so often and heard her play banjo for years, but I have never heard her play in this style before. She is always surprising us.

That gourd banjo is certainly interesting.

They are. Margo evidently borrowed that one to play, and I really don't know what she has been listening to lately that inspired the departure from the much more North Carolina inspired style she usually plays. (Round Peak style, as played by Riley Baugus and others) I'll have to quiz her about that.

Here's Adam Hurt talking about his fretless gourd banjo, evidently made from a purpose-grown gourd.

Adam made a whole album with that instrument a few years back called "Earth Tones". Here's the Playlist.

A cool looking and nice sounding instrument!
