My guess would be a new neck was being put on an existing body, since the pickup route does not go through the neck.
Nice project bass I guess. But to get it up and ready to Alembic specs will probably costs just as much as buying a used Spoiler.
My thoughts too, unless you have a stash of alembic spares looking for a body.

I have some alembic guitar pickups that could be installed in pairs in a double P-style configuration and bass/treble circuit. But I don't have any need for more basses.
I don't know how often he checks in, but the fella' selling it is a Club Member here too.
Looks like a great project to me... most of the hard joinery stuff is done that most of us don't have jigs for. There's routing of the pickup cavity through the neck beam, which is kind of a puzzle. It makes me wonder if those body wings didn't used to be on another bass? It looks like someone drilled all the way through with the threaded inserts. I would have thought the pickup rout would all be done at once. A little bit tricky, but do-able. What's left is fretwork, nut, bridge, installing hardware and electronics. All expensive, particularly if you're going OEM.
But you'd have a great Shopnight Spoiler/Persuader 5. Put a FatBoy pickup in that thing with a simple harness, and have some fun.
I can see this as a potential lined fretless bass, tuned E/A/D/G/C with a FAT BOY pickup.
