Title: Europa ? Spoiler w/ Europa body? mystery in Japan (1993 "JNLSB-4")
Post by: tkotmk42 on June 04, 2026, 12:57:00 PM
Funky, 'cos it has "U" in serial number (according to the website, can't tell from their pictures cos string blocks the view) but "no sustain block" and "no treble/bass switch", and not even Q switch!

I think it's a Spoiler w/ Europa body shape....

Either way, nice bass for Metalica fan  :)

Europa with Elan controls? Nuttin' wrong there.

Metallica, on a more forgiving budget.  8)

Here's one from 1996, this one has JN in the serial number (96JN10288)

Spoiler has a pickup selector and Elan has the Q switch, so I'm going with Essence electronics :-)
If it has a double preamp (two trimpots on the board) it would be a tiny step above the Essence, though I'm not sure if the Distillate boards were still available by '93 and '96? (if it's the modular Activator electronics, it would most likely be a single preamp)
Also seems like it has the Walnut veneers in the neck rather than the Purpleheart laminates. looks like they went for the most affordable Newsted signature :-)
