I happened to come across this, it's pretty cool

What more can one say about Alembic basses than that they can even sound good slapped!
Not generally a fan of the technique, but that was enjoyable.

Thanks Dave.  I haven't heard that version before... epic.

Somewhat related: 12 years ago we saw The Congress open for Tedeschi Trucks Band.  They were a Denver based band.  Not sure what happened to them, dusted off one of their cd's this past weekend and felt wistful.

Here they are covering Killing Me Softly.

Now that was.....interesting.
I'm gonna have to come back to it later before I figure out if I like it - but it was, as aforementioned, interesting.
Thanks, Paul.

I spent most of the evening at a Chris Thile mandolin extravaganza. Half originals, half Bach violin partitas, waving in and out of the one and the other. The man can sing, too. On the mandolin, he would do Jaco-style harmonics (in tune) to cover a top line in polyphony. Played for an hour and a half, and two encores. Force of nature.

He really is the male version of Sierra Hull.  :D ;)

Nickel Creeks first release was my introduction to Chris, he is incredibly talented and keeps improving.

As a musician, he is in the highest rank.
As Garrison's replacement on A Prairie Home Companion, mebbe not so much.......

all-time greats!
But I fear Mr. Guy might be a tad past his best-used-by date........
Hate to see it; same thing happened to Willie.

Well, you're not wrong, but I gotta say - seeing him at his club is still a night of magic. I've been friends with his bass player Orlando and guitarist Ric for a long time. And his current drummer Pooky Stix and I were in a wild punk/funk band back around 1990. Good guys, great band, and Buddy is a national treasure.

My good friend Bob installed the PA at Legends, and was house soundman for a while (that was in '88-'89 into the early '90s, so it might not be the same system now).  When he quit, Buddy asked him to play sax in his band, but Bob demurred, as he had come to consider Mr. Guy to be a serious jackass.
But he never said anything bad about Buddy's playing......
