I tend to be more of a single coil fan - great p90s, Dynasonics, and the ancient Carvin AP-6s are all my favorites. 

Actually, the best sounding vintage pickups I think I've ever heard are in this pair of guitars. They're Semie Moseley's weird homebrew things with covers that he literally baked in his oven. Someday I'll figure out the formula:






They're super glassy and hi-fi, but they measure 10.5k ohms.

They're incredibly cool things that aren't really like the later Ventures models. The pickups are just about the greatest things I've ever heard in my life.

There's an ad in the issue of Vintage Guitar that came today; CFM is making one supposed copy of each of the 91 pre-war dreads.

Oh, yeah - if I read the ad right, they'll be reusing the original serial numbers.

"Project 91". I love that they are doing it... the idea itself is great. I question if they will ever get through the entire set. I guess the question is, does a market exist for 91 bench copies at $150,000 ea.?

Half the point of those recordings was to showcase old guitars. Mostly Depression-era cheap guitars, but there's a couple vintage Martins and at least one Lloyd Loar F-5 too. I'd have to go back and listen or look at my notes, but I don't think either of us played the same combination on any tracks. I kinda' don't like listening to it anymore, especially the scratch I played. 🙄🤣 I do miss playing music with Curt. We were tentatively planning a Vol. 2.

One I remember vividly was The Old Grey Mare. I played the Chicago-label Regal Milord shown in the earliest pages of this thread. It belongs to flatpicker extraordinaire, Kenny Smith now. He has several of them. (it wasn't as hard as he makes it sound!)
