The other goldtop:







This one started life as a '53, and someone stripped the top, leaving the rest of the original finish intact, then did a poor job of converting it. I sourced all original parts (including the pre-sticker brushed cover PAFs), and finished the job properly.

It's got an incredible soft-v neck on it, that reminds me of the ones that come on early '30s OMs.

Quite a set. The other was a 54, right? Think I looked at the picture and sussed that much.

I only ever got to play one original. It was a '55 supposedly. I didn't know enough at the time to know what I was fooling with, but that experience stuck with me. Those P-90's were different to my eyes, and even as inexperienced as I was, I could just tell... it was a different thing. And as you say about the neck carve, instantly recognized as different. That slightly boat-keel V. It's the one feature my 50's Standard had, that my Special doesn't that I really wish it did. I'm good with the rest. Alas, it's all the Paul I'll need.

I love p90's... I have a V that used to be Lenny Kravits' (came outta the Vancouver Hard Rock) and it was a dull sounding guitar until I yarded out the humbuckers and put p90's in it HUGE improvement and I still love that guitar...

I tend to be more of a single coil fan - great p90s, Dynasonics, and the ancient Carvin AP-6s are all my favorites. 

Actually, the best sounding vintage pickups I think I've ever heard are in this pair of guitars. They're Semie Moseley's weird homebrew things with covers that he literally baked in his oven. Someday I'll figure out the formula:






They're super glassy and hi-fi, but they measure 10.5k ohms.

I have a few instruments with those bridges on them, and they all sound incredible.

Early Mosrites are super cool, and there is at least one former Mosrite employee who went onto work for (and steal from) Alembic.
