Hey Harry, Thanks for checking it out and the positive feedback. Veteran musicians? Three of the six have been around for a while making some interestingly unique progressive rock let's say, lol. There are profound shades of classic Gentle Giant, Procol Harum, and some medieval English church music happening.
In terms of writing and performing lots of odd meters in any given tune, you could get away with feeling it but it would be more labor intensive I think rather than reading and writing things down (for easier recall). At the end of the day it does need to be felt however leading into tricky sections have to be counted. So for those tricky parts I would suggest counting things out during those entire sections. Actually always be counting regardless. The other thing is the kind of feel you are playing against, if it is groove oriented then it can be easier to play be feel however if it is an orchestral score feel with lots of breaks it is more challenging.
