I held off posting because I wanted to see whether there was any way I could make over - practically my backyard (I'm in Queens). My schedule this weekend is jammed (gigs Friday and Saturday night with a family commitment Saturday afternoon). I thought I could finagle some time but it won't happen. I would've very much liked to meet and play with all you Alembicheads!! I know these things are difficult to arrange - but, maybe next time.

Rats....!!

Hey bassilisk,
Queens? I'm a Bayside/Whitestone boy, and I believe Todd is coming from Long Island. And, anyone from Queens that can finagle can make it on Sunday! Give it a try.

Hey guys, as an old Yonkers boy (hometown), I would've loved to have made this one, but, with senior management's birthday on Sunday, I'll be staying on the West Coast this weekend.  Have a GREAT time (I know you will), take lots of pics, bang some bottles on a table, and play a Dead song or two!

Put new strings on both Alembic's today and will try to set them up tomorrow night. But still no new replacement chip from the Mothership for tempermental F-1X which currently is heart of my main rack system. Could switch to using Sansamp RPM and run mono through through two Eden 4X10's or use my Sansamp RPM and Sansamp RB1 in a bi-amp setup with one preamp set for lows through a 1X15 cabinet and the other preamp set for highs through a 4X10 cabinet. Alot of remounting stuff from one rack to another and rewiring for that setup. Only problem is I only ever tried that setup for recording through headphones with each preamp output going to seperate channels in my Tascam 2488 MKII.Or I could leave the rack alone and hope the F-1X behaves itself. And than there is my back which kinda hurts. If I can make it up there I'll bring the latest set of X-rays and everyone will understand why it hurts.
Looks like this trip will be like a Space Shuttle launch. You really want to go but there is always that last minute glitch that scrubs the mission.
Hoping for that Go Flight on Saturday morning. Willie

Willie, leave the entire rack at home. Come on over, we'll have something to plug into.

Harold for the sake of good order, should we see how many people divided by how many hours to produce a 10/15/20 minute window so that everyone has chance to play? I'm sure everyone is a gentleman/lady and everyone will be respectful but a loose framework to adhere to gives the scenario a backbone. Dannobasso I will certainly say hello to Mike for you. Sorry to have missed you, I hope we can meet up sometime soon. Do you know where the Defiant Brewery is in Pearl River? I think you do. Perhaps Piermont? Either way keep in touch.

HEY Willie,
You don't need to go through all that effort. New strings sound like a perfect add-on. (What strings did you use?)Bring your films and a Motrin, and we can talk about aches and pains. If you want, we can start talking about Florida retirement homes and shuffleboard!

Hi Barry, I think that we should have about 5 bass amp rigs minimum setup for playback at any given time. Looking at playing together (5 basses at a time), I think that we are looking at 3 rotations. This is the thinking for the recording hour (4P - 5P). That would work out to 15 - 20 mins for each rotation (3 songs?). For the rest of the day, I suspect that with people talking to each other in side conversations, inspecting the equipment of others, eating, smoking, etc...there should always be a free rig to plug into and play.

Hey Marc - always good to find another local! I'm in Astoria.
Now I'm confused - you did say Sunday - or was that just a blip? I thought it was only Saturday. At any rate, even that wouldn't work - I got a Sunday afternoon thing at a beach club. Unfortunately I have exhausted my wiggle room and am bound to my commitments. I would love to come out even if I didn't play, just to perv on the gear. It's like an Alembic Expo!

Oh well, better luck next time (I hope).
Will

This sucks! I am in Parsippany right this very moment and I have to be back in Massachusetts tomorrow night. I don't think I'll be in the mood to drive back to NJ on Saturday morning only to have to drive back to MA within the following 12 hours or so....

Take lots of pictures and bang a few bottles on the tables for me!

One of the great lines of all time was something to the effect of:

I like playing 5 strings because it allows me to suck 25% more.

I really wanted to meet the one who came up with that.

Come on back JP!

Marc
I used DR Highbeams on my Europa and Alembic strings on my Essence. I prefer the brightness of the stainless steel Highbeams but my Essence is a short scale, small standard body and tuned ADGC as a tenor bass. So finding strings for it isn't easy. I still have one more set of Alembic strings left for it and than I will contact DR about ordering custom sets- 85, 65, 45, 30.
Motrin doesn't cut it. I'm on 3 different prescriptions and they barely help unless I double or triple up and pay attention to the little label on the bottle that says drink alot of alcohol with this medicine.
Retirement, I doubt I'll make it that far but if I do I'll try shuffleboard in Florida.
Never did get the part for the F-1X and actually don't expect to but thats another story I won't get into here. I believe it will be retired instead. I guess I will have to be switching to using my Sansamp preamps for my amplified sound and recording. And in light of that and how I feel physically, if I make it up there it will be just to meet everyone, listen to everyone play and admire all the Basses, oh and guitars too.
So no 3000 watt system arriving with me.
I'll save and use the new strings for recording at home. Besides, its a full moon and I should be Musky fishing today.
Willie
