New to the Club

I have been reading about Alembic and dreaming for several years now.  Today (11 January) is my 30th birthday and I feel that it is time to get a little more involved.  I am almost to a point when I can start making some of my dreams into reality.
 
I live in Ohio, in the USA.  I play a Spector USA Series NS-4 with a high gloss black finish.  Alembic has so many options that I can't make many decisions yet.  But maybe with some feedback here I can get the process moving.

If you are trying to decide on options for your dream bass, you'll probably want to spend most of your time in Factory to Customer where you can peek in on conversations between Alembic and customers who have masterpieces in progress.  You should also look in Showcase to see what's already been done.  I'm sure most of us on the site have no problem with you emailing or posting questions about the choices we made on our basses, why we made them, whether or not our expectations are met.  We Alembic nuts love to talk about our basses.

My suggestion: dive into the monthly custom department of the site. Just wander along and I bet you'll come out with some great idea's. Don't go too quick: take your time and keep on asking. We bass-players are already the most friendly race in the universe. The Alembic-bass-players are even more friendly and cooperative!
You can easily see that for yourself browsing around!

Happy Belated Birthday and welcome to this great Alembic Family!  I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here.  Definitely don't stop dreaming until you make that Dream a reality.  I dreamed about owning an Alembic for many years as well, and was finally able to make it a reality this past September.  It was certainly the single, most worthwhile investment I have made to date.

I can tell you these instruments are all about dreams realised.  I'm not sure if the I own the BigRedBass, or it owns me.
 
Several ways to learn the basses.  This Club is full or lots of information.  Check out the 'Showcase' section for images of lots of Alembics.
 
Alembic's website nails down the particulars of the various instruments (www.Alembic.com).  There's lots of pictures in the 'Featured Custom' pages going back many months.
 
It's particularly helpful to remember that Alembics are identified by their pickup/electronics package generally.  A Rogue with Series II electronics is a Series II with a Rogue body.  You may have seen John Entwistle's Explorer shaped basses, which are called the 'Exploiter' shape by Alembic.  Again, these would be a Series bass (or Spoiler, or Europa, etc.) with an Exploiter body shape.
 
You'll find that there's no other instruments built like these, and no other company (and its customers) as eager to welcome you to this family.

Your statement that the basses are identifed by their electronics package has me a bit confused.  If you order a Rogue with Series II electronics, the serial number will indicate that it's a Rogue, right?

Usually we'll use serial number code C for a bass that doesn't have a close feature set to a standard model.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.  When working with the custom quote web page I assumed that if I started with a Rogue and changed the body shape and electronics it would still be identified as a Rogue.  But I can see where it certainly makes sense to use the serial number code C rather than Q in that case.

I'm glad to be with you. I'm a bass playin' cop! I've got a 1978 seriesI and a 1980 Distillate as well as a booty load of other basses with alembic guts in'em. I also am a builder and I've put alembic electronics in those as well. as soon as I figure out how to send you guys (and gals) pictures I'll send you a pic of my extended family.
 
I've mostly been playing blues lately but I've played just about every thing else. My passion is fusion though, but I can and will funk with the rest of yous!!!

We would love to see pics of the extended family. Now when you say you are a builder, do you use bodies and necks already made, or do you make them yourself? Either way, that must be a lot of work and love
