Hello,
after being quite busy for the past month I finally have a chance to put in a picture of my Alembics as I promised earlier. On this photo they're actually ashore at my girlfriends home but usually they live onboard my cargo ship with me.
The short scale Series I dates from -75 and I bought her in -89 for a mere 800 GBP in London Bass Centre. I was told there was only one owner before me, maybe Mica or Val can shed some light in this as well as the wood material on the body. The serial number is 143. Despite the age she's in a very good condition.
The long scale Series II dating from -87 is most likely one of the first laser LED basses ever built by Alembic. I bought her in -97 from Mark King when he was selling some of his basses via Bass Centre. Mark got two Coco Bolo bodied basses from Alembic and the other one he still has together with a Satinwood medium scaled Series II. He also sold an older long scale Series I at the same time and I wonder who is the owner today.
I remember when I was 17 in -87 and saw in the December issue of Guitar Player an adviertisment with Mark leaning on a stack of a Mesa Boogie amp, and on its other side there was this incredible looking Alembic with LEDs. A year after I got an Alembic poster where Mark sat with this bass on his lap and the text stating The Winning Combination. And of course I saw he play live with it. Little could I know that some years after I would own the very same bass!
So these are my main instruments. I must say there are no other bass I'd think of playing. Except another Alembic, of course!!
All the Bass
