Best thing to do is register your bass and ask for it in the build record area. If you've recently registered, then just email help@alembic.com and we'll look up the details in the file.

Hello Gary,
Welcome to the club, and yes, a very cool 5 string you have indeed! Just a question, what gauges do you use, especially on the high C string? I'd like to tune my short scale to a tenor bass. I think Clarke used 030 on his high C but I'm not sure. I use a light set and my G is a 030 already.

The last set I bought was 100/80/65/45/30. I usually have to scrounge the music store for a single fifth string cause I'm too cheap to buy a six string set and toss the low B! Does anyone know where I can order a five string set?

A bit of a correction, I think. I've been under the impression for 23 years that the top wood was Koa. That's what the music store said. The Alembic file says it's bubinga! It also says it was completed a month after I bought it. Go figure. Mica, can you check this info? The number is DSMB 81-1913, I bought it from Metro Music in Atlanta, now closed, run by the Bicknell family.

Hello Gary,

sorry about the mix-up, I made a typical transposition mistake and gave you the build record on 81-1931 which also happened to be a distillate.

The file on your bass shows all the documents from when you had the bass converted to a five string, and had the electronics upgraded to Europa; it does not show any wood information  other than that it does have a Koa top as you believed all these years.
