Hi..I'm Gary, I've being lurking here for a few months, absorbing  the wisdom. I've been playing bass since..ah..the mid 60's. I'm currently Alembic poor, but I'm saving my milk money. Previously, I owned a Series I and a Spoiler, but got rid of them for 'something better'. Having laid off playing for about 5 years or so,I've come back to one of my passions. (yeah the left hand works now too !)
And I've been putting together ideas for 'the' bass.
Of course I want one of everything Alembic makes..but honey, it's an investment !

Welcome, Gary.  So, what is 'the' bass going to look like?

Good to meet you Gary.  I know about laying off for several years.  Good luck with that investment line.  Let us know how it works for you.  What bass do you have currently if any?  We sure aren't bass/guitar snobs.  We can appreciate any quality instrument.  Name a luthier or manufacturer and someone around here will have one.

Hi again..nice to meet you too..
The investment line worked when I picked up an ES-5 and a '67 Rickenbacker 12 strg. Maybe I'm pushing it huh ?
Currently I'm playing a Spector Euro 4 strg and a Rickenbacker 4001..mostly the Spector. And I pump it thru a Mesa 400+ into 4x10 and 2 1x12's.
'The' bass is starting to look like a Spoiler with something like anniversary electronics, tending towards Coco Bolo.
I like the Spolier shape and the 32 scale, but want more flexibilty in the electronics department.

Welcome from the upper registers!

Your rig sounds great.  I play through Mesa stuff as well.  It works well for me.

I had an old Rick 12 many moons ago... Does yours have the second Ric-O-Sound plug? Did it come with the Ric-O-Sound box?  Man...You're bringing back memories.

Glad to have you aboard.

Hi Hollis
The 12 has the plug,so does the 4001 and my 6 strg. I do like the sound of the Ricko guitars. They also go thru Mesa ampage. (I dont consider myself a guitarist tho)
Although Ampeg and others are great amps, the Mesa just sounds more open to me, not as bassy or boomy as others

Investment opportunities update:
Several asked to be kept posted.
Saturday I picked up my new Coco Bolo Excel. When I got home I says..hey hon check this out and handed it to her. After about 15 minutes of 'hmmmmm' and 'oooo', (I was waiting for the jewelers eyepiece to come out)..I asked..so ?  She says (unsolicited remarks), it's beautiful, great craftsmanship, your best investment yet.
Almost fell over laughing..nevermind dear, ya wouldnt understand.
G
ps..this is Alembic # 1 for the collection

Congratulations on the new Excel and the brilliant wife. Your profile says you're in NE Illinois. May I ask where?  I spent some good years in the Rockford area.

Hi Sam
I'm in Spring Grove..a little bit northwest of Fox Lake.
Rockford is about 40 minutes straight west.

Fox Lake... wow, that takes me back. When I was a kid, my grandparents had a summer cottage on an island in Pistakee Lake (connected to Fox, among others). Haven't thought about that in a long time.

Hi Bob
Pistakee is still there..I'm like a block off the chain o lakes/Nippersink. Of course it's all built up now, especially in the 10 years since we moved 'up nort'.
