I finally made it!
« on: February 14, 2005, 07:54:33 AM »
Got my first Alembic, and a sweet deal from a member of this forum (thanks Kev!!).  I now play a '02 Skylark with a clear flame maple top.  Gawd, I love this guitar.

Question: since I am playing an Alembic I am an Alembician (I assume) but how do you pronounce that?  Alembick-eean?  Alembi-shin?  Alembishi-eean?  Help me out here.

I also see there is an old playmate here...dadabass!  It's me, Roger from Rudy's in Aurora...remember playing that Birdsong with me???

Anyhoo...I'll post my bands playing info and continue to read these threads.  My Alembic dream came true.
The only thing that stays the same is change.

Heee-ho,
welcome,

attack of the Paul's again.
I THINK we say Alembi-shin. We got a memer from Quebeq some years ago who siad Alembicien.

Though the name Alembician I (but WHO am I) use mostly for that bunch of guitarconstructing Elfs in Santa Rosa.

Welcome Roger to the small but ever-growing number of guitar players in the club. Congratulations on your Skylark. I believe I've seen photos of it in the club and it is beautiful. My Skylark is an absolute pleasure to play every day, I know you will continue to enjoy yours.

Hey, Roger - welcome to the club!

As you are experienceing, Alembics will get a hold of you and spoil you for other instruments.  It is a scientific fact that they are extremely additive.  In fact, Alembics and heroin are alot alike, except that with Alembics the first one isn't free!  (LOL)

Enjoy your new Skylark.  As you get to know it, I'm sure questions will pop up.  Don't be shy, post your inquiries and you will be amazed at the wealth and depth of knowledge around here, along with the slightly twisted sense of humor that descends on these threads every once in a while.

Watch out Paul, the guitar players are multiplyin'!

Roger, welcome to the club.  It's cool reading about someone's newfound amazement with Alembics.  I don't think it ever completely goes away.  I bet even the long-time owners/players still discover new things that make them say Wow, I haven't heard that before.

  • Are 3 Alembics enough? NO!

Hey Roger,
How are you? Welcome to the club. I'm up to three Alembics now. Back in the Rudys days I only had one. So yes, these instruments are addictive.  Please post some pics when you get the chance, and let us know where you're playing.

Hello Roger
Welcome from an ex-Pat Illinoisan(?). Not sure where Batavia is but I spent many a good year in Rockford. Congratulations on your Skylark and please post some photos of it and your rig.

I think some of the terms may be:
   Alembiholic: addicted to that sound
Alembisitis: when you fingers get swollen
                   from playing your Alembic
Alembidectomy: when you sell your Alembic
Alembicide: when that killer sound slays
                               the audience...
