I'd like to thank Paul (elzie) Ellsworth, or inviting me here.
 
I don't Yet own an Alembic, and as of right now never played one. It is my dream bass. Which one?? too hard to decide. I hope to learn a lot here.
 
I started playing in 1973, I had some Gibson knock off, then a fender knock off. In 1977 I purchased a real Fender Jazz natural body with maple neck and white block inlays, Love. sold it in 1980, joined the Airforce, 4 years.
 
had some kids and other things kept from my love of the bass, money and time mostly. I paid $350 for that Fender wich today is lke $1500-$2000
 
long story short.......last April I started playing again
 
I purchased a yamaha BB405, and a Ibanez starter pack, a hartke A35 amp
 
I've been practicing, not as much as I'd like too, I do sleep and work hard.
 
also, the name I chose is 27.5Hz, it looks like 275Hz........better planning needed

Had to look it up... 27.5 Hz is the bottom note on a piano, equivalent to the A a full step down from the low B on a 5 string bass.
 
I was wondering why the 275, seemed a bit high - for most of us, anyway :-)

Welcome Tyrone, you're getting ready about a hour and a half before me.  BTW, what are you selling at 3am?
 
There's to learn here.  I've gleaned a lot of information on gear (still use Hartke), maintenance, technique, etc. The new section that Mica and Dave started with the archives and FAQ is brilliant.

I can't vouch for the Ibanez, but I'm amazed what Yamaha has on offer even for about 400 euro - definitely a big improvement on what that kind of money could buy you say 10 years ago. Nice to play, reasonable amount of sustain, perhaps not 'deep' sounding but quite decent anyway (passive controls) - certainly nothing that would get in the way of your playing. And weighing a lot less than that BB1100S I was playing back in the days, I might add.

Welcome to the club, I used to use Hartke and Yamaha, they both make some good gear.
 
I had 2 Hartke 4-10 cabs and a 1-15 cab that I powered with a GK 800RB, but after playing through some SWR gear I switched. it was a nice sounding rig.
 
I  used to play Yamaha RBX-5 and RBX 765a 5 string basses, but upgraded to a Alembic Series I 5 str (pre owned) and a Pedulla Pentabuzz.
 
I also had  fretted and fretless Ibanez Musician basses that were real nice which I sold 3 mos ago after ordering a new Alembic, but I still have a Ibanez Studio 8 string thats a real keeper (Ibanez copied the style of an Alembic on those 3 models).
The Yamaha John Patitucci 6 str bass looks real nice, I wish there was one around here to try out, but I am starting to prefer playing only handmade, American made instruments, there are exceptions tho ).
If you are looking to try out Alembics there is a nice little store in NJ that has a few different models as well as some other nice basses you won't find in the 2 big name stores.

Thanks brother Paul I realize I have been away for a while. I have been very busy training for my Apple certifications, getting the house ready to sell (which is today) and I figured what better day to come back than Valentines Day???
 
Well, Tyrone I can relate to the Hartke being an inexpensive amp, but that doesn't mean it's cheap quality. I like my Hartke and use it for traveling and keep my SWR at home with the rest of my rig. The Hartke is not as heavy, which ,akes it a lot easier at the end of the night!

I'm home from work, I can't believe the warm welcomes here!!!!
I've been to other bass forums ( this only 2nd one I've joined ) and this one is by far the nicest.
 
I love the sound, from my http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1670&brandID=3]hartke A35[/URL] and the size of my bedroom accents it 12.5' x 14'
 
As for the Yamaha, didn't know it existed, I was looking for a Fender, saw the prices, then just told the guy at Sam Ash on the famous 48st NYC to just show 5 strings under $500 I tried many and stayed there almost 4 hours, while trying a Spector the sales guy said he had to go recieve a truck. He came back with Yamaha and said you've got to see this! it looked lovely and had great tone and was passive ( I've never had an active bass) just what I needed to relearn, and 24 frets, the neck feels like it was made for my hands.
 
anyway, I haven't really, seriously touched a bass in over a decade. the strings on the spector were much too close together.
