Hi All- I just bought an Essence 6 string- she's a beauty for sure. Some of you had tracked her movements- through Ebay a couple of times, then on down to the lowly Music-go-round, where i found and rescued her. Here's a question: The bass came with a miss-matched hardshell case, is it OK to keep her in a gig bag most of the time, or does she really need to be in a hardshell case? many thanks

Hi Jonathan. Others can answer this better than I perhaps. I'd keep the instrument in the hard case, unless the case is too mismatched and the neck and/or body is in some unorthodox position. If you keep it in the gig bag it is more apt to get hurt. My thoughts. (Also, I'm going to asume you are a 1957 model as am I!) Welcome.......

Hi Jon; welcome and congrats!

Personally, I don't care for gig bags, I always use a hard case. But there are other club members that do use soft cases; and apparently there are a few very good soft cases out there that do offer some protection. It's a matter of personal preference, conditions, and comfort level. My personal recommendation is to find a good hard case.

Thank you all for the good wishes and your opinions are valuable to me, As you can see the consensus is that the hard case is the prudent way to go, and after all when you own one of these....I will be on the lookout for a good hardshell case. All best to you- Jon

I use both hard cases and gig bags, depending on the situation. When I go to rehearsal, I find it very convenient to slip a gig bag over my shoulder. Of course, this is a situation where I'm the only one handling my guitar and it's only going to be transported in my vehicle to and from the studio. Gig bags are also very convenient if I'm carrying more than one instrument to rehearsal. The one place I NEVER use a gig bag is on a gig! If my guitar is going to be transported along with a bunch of other heavy stuff, and may be handled by someone else, it is in a case. period.

Another situation that might call for a gig back is flying with your instrument, assuming the airline has o.k.ed you to carry it on board.

My $0.02 ... get both and adjust to the situation.
