That's my question, Alchemists. I have a spoiler 4 string that is awesome. and I did have a persuader 6 (34 scale) but I'm wondering if anyone has or has had or knows someone with a 32 scale 6 string bass?

Is there something really bad about that idea? I was just wondering. Thanks

I suggest you should get their expert opinion on this matter. It would be wise to communicate with Mica at the Mothership, especially about string tension on the neck and the 32 inch scale. I imagine care should also be taken with respect to the string sets you decide to use, each brand and type exerts different tension on the neck. Good luck and keep us posted!

If I'm correct, Danno has a 7 string spoiler that's 32 inches, I may be wrong though

One of the members here hieronymous has a stanley clarke signature 5 string short scale 30.75 bass though he has it strung without a low B.

It may be worth having a chat with him about it. But I can't imagine it would be a problem technically to make a 6 string with a 32 scale length, although I would expect there to be balance problems with the weight of the neck/headstock so you may find that you are discouraged from that route.

Most of the Spoiler and Persuader basses we made in the 80's were medium scale, even the 5- and 6-strings.

I would agree that balance could be an issue with the Spoiler body shape. 32 scale helps on that front, and I'd propose using lightweight tuners, a slender peghead design, and the smallest neck width that you could stand. Even then, don't expect it to balance like a Rogue or Bal K would.

First thing I would do is experiment with tuning your current Spoiler BEAD, and see if the mechanical feel of the string is to your liking - do try several different types! There are some people who can't stand the medium scale B string feel, and others that prefer it... you'll have to figure out if you have a strong opinion about the feel.

I personally love the tone of the medium scale, with any strings! It's no good if you expect it to behave like a 35+ scale length, but it has a particularly sweet tone to me.

Mica, even tho silent today, you emanate large volumes of knowledge. Sweet can work for me! I have a 32 inch 34 inch and 35 inch scale Series Basses, and it is nice to have the sweet to harder palette of tones. For me width at the neck is more of an issue (as you know the string bass has a 42 inch scale and technique is different to deal with the extra length). I also figure I am always confused, so why should my fingers be free of the same? Get well soon.

I am curious why a narrow neck width. I would think for stability, more beef there would be better. Would you then suggest the use of denser neck laminates? Please continue with your wisdom. From the mothership to the Led Zepellin mothership, please Ramble On.

I have 3 Spoiler 6's, 1 Spoiler 7 and a Status 6 all medium scale. They balance fine and sound great.

Wookie, that 6 can work. I played an Alembic 5 that was 32. You have to ease up a bit when attacking that low B and Mica had also suggested hex core strings which will have a good effect on tension.

Alembic can make it happen and quite well !!

All my multi string Spoilers were ordered direct. The benefits of being single.

Current pricing on Stambaughs is $2200 4 str neck through, $300 extra for a kahler bridge, wood upcharge not specified plus the cost of the Alembic electronics which are over $1500.

I'm open to reasonable offers.
