Hello from Upstste NY
« on: March 04, 2008, 06:38:07 PM »
Ive been haging around for a couple of years after I bought my Epic 5-string fretless.  What a great group of people you are!  I've been playing for about 23 years or so and i've been in love with these basses since the first time I saw one while I was in high school(ELP, second row in front of Greg Lake!)  From that point on, I knew I wanted one but they were so expensive!  Years later, I had a Hohner fretless that was stolen out of the van as we were packing up on tour and showed up the next night with no bass as an opening act(never recovered).  I gave my sob story to the bass player and he insisted i play his, an Alembic Series II!!!  Fell in love!  Fast forward about 10 years, I found the Epic 5-string fretless on ebay, and pretty much have not touched my other basses since!  I will post pictures once I figure it out.  Until then, I found some videos on youtube of my band Shu performed on a local TV show.

Hope you enjoy!

Hi Todd-

Welcome from a northeast PA newbie ! Very tasty lines on the gfrrecords youtube videos, especially with the 5 string fretless. Fun story about your introduction to the Alembic after your Hohner fretless was stolen. Things happen for a good reason. I also owned one way back in the day but it's long gone. Maybe I'll see you around Glens Falls this summer.

Enjoy, Gil

Hey Todd
Congratulations on your Epic and welcome. I got my Epic on ebay also. Only 4 strings though. I get confused easily.

Welcome Todd,
From another Epic 5 string fretless owner!

Don't you just love the growl and response of the Epic? I swapped out the bass & treble controls for the AE-2 Alembic low pass filter and 3 position Q switch for the classic Alembic sound. It really makes the bass sing!
Happy playing!
