Hello all:
I've just purchased my first Alembic, a tribute, and wanted to join the discussion club. I'm a recreational user (of guitars) and a 25 year fan of Jerry and his inimitable sound. I look forward to posting photos soon and hope to hear from others.

Congrats in your Tribute and welcome to the club! We certainly love pictures around here, so do post some when you can. It's always nice to have another six-stringer around as the club is decidedly bottom heavy, though a finer bunch of bass players you wouldn't find anywhere else. What kind of rig are you running that Tribute through?

Pictures will be coming soon and running it through a Vox Vt-30 (it's only for my office and with my kids). Any better recommendations?

Welcome to the forum and the pleasure of Alembic ownership! Congratulationss on the Tribute - great choice. Did you get it from a local Pittsburgh music store?

Pittsburgh is, and always will be, home for me (Stanton Heights) I miss Mineo's pizza (even though I have them ship it to me once in a while). Do you happen to know the band The Cause? (pgh jam band)...

Recommendations for a rig? How about dual Fender Twin Heads going into a McIntosh 2300 power amp then into a vertical stack of 3 JBLs lol (I assume you recognize this rig). I admit it may be a little overkill for an office, but Jerry liked it! Actually, I'm not familiar with your Vox, but I suspect I may be getting it's little brother (DA5) for my birthday next week. If yours is anything like the reviews I've read of the DA5, it should be just fine for your purposes. If you ever want to upgrade to something you can play in a band or gig with, just shout out and lots of people around here will offer up their opinions. Personally I used Boogies for many years, but found that my Alembic guitars seemed to like Fenders better. Lately I've been playing through a rack system based around an Alembic F-2B preamp and a Mesa 50/50 power amp. However, I just took delivery on a Pritchard amp that just might kick ass on everything else I've tried.

Art - I live in the Sq. Hill area and can walk to Mineo's. When did you graduate? Peabody?

Not familiar with the cause but will look out for them. Bought the tribute at G Guitars out of Connecticut - no pittsburgh dealers.

Bill - thanks for the advice and Jerry's set up may not be overkill, but my wife wouldn't appreciate!

Michael, welcome aboard!
Guitar players are a minority here, but I'm a former guitar player migrated to bass...

There's reasons why the basses are more popular than the guitars, but I'd rather not start that thread... okay, I will.
Too many woods and too much brass seems to take the body out of a guitar; the strings are too small,etc. to truly engage a multi-wood body, so many resonant qualities are lost at guitar frequencies...

Hie Michael, I'm also an alembic guitarist, I have an Orion and a Strat with 3 alembic activators. I use a Fender Twin amp ( Not twin reverb) with mine and they sound great through that. Although that may be a bit of overkill for recreational use as it weighs a ton and is pretty loud. for practice at home I use my Phil Jones Briefcase Bass combo which is fantastic and brings out more of the acoustic sound of the guitar. I've also used it on a few gigs where space was a premium. Miked or DI'd up it's a great little amp.

I too use the PJB Briefcase. Mainly with bass but it is a great full range small and easy to handle amp.

Oh yea, forgot to add... incredible full range sound for 5 drivers. Brilliant!

Hey Michael congratulations on the Tribute. As for the rig, like anything else, if it's worth doing it's worth doing in excess! This is what I play through at home.
