Something about me...
« on: August 23, 2009, 08:27:57 AM »
Hello everybody. I've been reading (and, occasionally, posting) on this board for a while now, I guess it's time to say Hi.
I'm a bassist from Germany & discovered Alembic pretty much by accident... seeing Jean Baudin's Hideous Claw bass and doing some research finally led me here. Right now I'm far from being able to afford an Alembic (and I still doubt if I would dare to get on stage with it...), but as dreaming is for free
My first bass was a used Stagg 4 string which I still own (and modified... 8 strings now), but all I play right now is my self-made 5 string. Hopefully in a couple of months my 7-string bass & my 7-string fretless guitar will be done and I'll have some more choices. I'm really looking forward to those. And, hopefully, to my first Alembic in a couple of years...

Hi Stefan and welcome!  I hope that your first acquisition comes sooner than you think.  You won't regret it!
Best, Art

Welcome Stefan, amazing idea using a fretless guitar. I've heard some guys doing incredible things with this instrument, congratrulations! Consider research about some Sarod music, this indian instrument seems to be more related to it than our modern fretted guitars. You'll be intigued by the way they play melodies and think the rhithm. Don't know if is your thing but indian music is very interesting, anyway. Check it out.
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

Welcome Stefan!
Wow, fretless guitars and bass...I am way too clumsy for that, I almost need speedbumps not frets, but they're hard to intonate!
Amazing thing about this forum, an ignorant thunkhead like myself can coexist and make friends with a guy playing 7 string FRETLESS!
Anyway, buy an Alembic as soon as you can, you will love it...best I've owned by far...tony

@peoplechipper: I do have marks on the fretboard where the frets would be... so as long as it's not too dark that helps a lot
@mario: Thanks for that information, I will do some research. I already was thinking about some arabic stuff, Oud-music... it does sound a bit like one on the higher strings, at least if played acoustic (it doesn't have any pickups yet :D )
And Art: I hope that aswell.
